HP Color Laserjet CP1518ni - won't print colors?

Mac OSX and all drivers up to date as of 9/20//09, including the HP driver download. The Laserjet prints okay, in black ink -- but won't print any other color.

When I sent it a Word document with some red text, the printed output for those characters was light grey.

I'd been out of ink for the other colors, and changed all the cartridges yesterday with new ones. (All HP, no refills, etc.) The printer demo page prints okay when you press the appropriate buttons on the printer itself, so that's operating normally.

Ideas? I searched through the forum, but couldn't find anything.

Mikael,

A couple things to try. First reset your printing system by going in to the Print & Fax system preference, right click on your printer, and select "Reset printing system..." Then when you add your printer back make sure it is using the driver for HP Color Laserjet CP1510 Series, not a generic PostScript driver, or some other printer version.

Just trying to help.

I have found many people in the Forum with this problem, with no satisfactory answer. I have a HP Photosmart C4280 with the same problem. (Which only popped up recently!) But I HAVE found a simple work around. After pushing the "Print" button, push "Preview" button THEN SAVE THE FILE! (Save As) Now you can print in color because you are printing from within Preview. (If you don't save the file, you are still in iTunes and it won't work.) At this point you can keep or delete the Preview file.

Just be careful if you follow the advice to reset the printing system. I just right clicked on my CP1518 and it deleted all six of my printers. Now I find that there is no easy back up for printer settings through Time Machine.

I have had so many problems with this CP1518, I do not have an "Options" selection to make any changes to the quality of print, paper, etc. Very aggravating.

If anyone has any ideas on recovering all of my printer settings, I would be grateful.
