3.1 Battery nightmare

Since updating my 3G to 3.1 I am getting massive battery charge reduction. I can't get through a whole day now without the 20% warning kicking in around the late afternoon/early evening. If I didn't charge by then it'd be dead by the end of the day. Prior to 3.1 that was never a problem - Something weird is going on.... Anyone else had this?

Agreed - I have messed with MobileMe and it isn't that on mine. The only thing that works for me is basically disabling all kinds of network access except for the phone. So no WiFi, no 3G, no Location Services, Bluetooth etc. I reset my phone but it has made no difference and I still get the coma where the phone won't wake up. Clearly we all have these issues, is anyone from Apple reading this? If so, could we have some comment or update on the situation please? I note that some people with it have apparently been sent some sort of Battery Monitor application, so I think that for those of us here who have the issue we could really do with that being made available to us. Here we are, all struggling along with hugely expensive phones which are suddenly unable to last a full working day with the functionality advertised on a full charge. If it's not sorted, it could be class action lawsuit time; I'm starting to lose my rag with the situation....

Same issues here. I found that only using EDGE, no WiFi, no push notifications, fetch set to hourly, and only texting or phone calls helped with the battery life. Problem with that is now its just a normal phone not an iPhone. Hopefully Apple will fix these issues soon. I have also had a few instances of the phone "bricking" or crashing...but only twice.

There is clearly a battery issue. I would guess that Apple guestimated way to low for the battery size in this phone. With all going on, it is extremely underpowered.

But I have found a solution that will get me through a day without finding a charger. Let me say again, A DAY, a single day without charging.

Juice Pack Air case.

Yeah, I had to spend $70 on another battery to get me through a single 24 hour period. The last 2 days, I have made it 12 hours during a day without having the phone completely drain with this product. Kinda extreme, but seeing as though I need my phone to make calls and be on call, I had to take measures knowing that a solution from Apple is not coming any time soon.

Recall all the phones, beef up the battery, and the problem will be solved.

Count me in as having battery issues as well. Luckily I am in a situation where I can have it charging as much as necessary, but this is still an issue that needs to be resolved. I do use bluetooth, wi-fi, and push notifications, but ever since 3.1 dropped, battery life during non-usage is tapered significantly. If left overnight not charging, the battery power drops to below 20% (I do not have MobileMe). This was not an issue in 3.0 and nothing has changed in my usage. Add to the fact my 8 month old Jawbone no longer holds a charge (this began this past week) and in the last few days I can't make calls or get 3g service in my house, which used to have great coverage (though the bars are full and 3G displayed, I believe this to be an AT&T cell tower issue). It has been a frustrating week for my mobile self.

my Iphone screen flashes for about a second the entire day in random intervals which drains the battery life considerably after the upgrade to 3.1. I barely can get through a day with minimal use on a full charge whereas before the upgrade i got at least 2 full days with lots of use. I only manually snyc my email/contacts/calendar about two times a day. Any suggestions to help improve battery life or fix the screen flashing?

I'm going to join the chorus here, although my problem sounds a bit different. I don't know that it is 3.1 related, although it may be. In the last couple of days, my phone has dropped charge extremely rapidly. This morning at 9:00 am the charge showed at around 70% or so; by 9:45, the phone was dead. The first time it happened the charge was lower - around 30% and it died overnight, so I really didn't pay much attention. This is the third time since Saturday. I haven't changed my usage pattern at all, and used to get between 4 and 7 days per charge. I've read some stories online that there is a prolem, but don't see anything official at this point.

Got the same problem with my Iphone 3G, my phone probably last about 6 hours or less depending on the usage. Then my local carrier doesn't believe that my iphone has any problems. They kept it for 2 weeks and told me there was nothing wrong with it, and i got my phone back yesterday. Before going to sleep i had it fully charged, so i slept at 3am and woke up at 11am, and my iphone battery was at 10%... *** ***! oi apple fix this or tell my local carrier to fix it.

btw i live in Philippines.

SInce installing 3.1 two weeks ago, the following problems have occurred and I want to log my experience along with 100's of others here:

1) Random shut-downs occurring once or twice a day typically after a time-out -- I have to do a manual reboot to resolve

2) Battery Life drastically reduced dropping from fully-charged to 50% within an hour -- I have to keep it plugged in at my desk whenever possible

3) Beginning 9/29, 3G reception is completely gone and calls are going right to voicemail -- I have temporarily turned off 3G under settings tonight to run with Edge (I will observe tomorrow how this may temporarily alleviate battery issue)

I have never experienced any issues with iPhone updates before, this is a first for me and all three issues are impacting my productivity. I hope Apple resolves this quickly and provides us a 3.11 update. Greg

I am having the same issues after the 3.1 update. Battery life used to last 2 days+, and now I am barely getting one day?? I don't have mobile me, or use push (email is set to fetch manually). My useage habits have not changed. Also, I am not getting the 10% battery low warning, only get the 20% warning. Actually the battery warning thing started with 3.0, but I thought updating to 3.1 would fix it, but hasn't.

Apple needs to fix this issue. Suggestions like, turn of 3g, WiFI, disable email, etc. etc. really are not solutions. Why have the features if the battery life cannot support it, and why have the IPhone without the features?
