EXS won't locate my samples (Logic Pro 9)

Why doesn't Logic Pro (9) search for files the way previous versions have?

Okay, I renamed my samples HD, that wasn't the best idea, but L8 and L7 will search and find my samples on that same drive. The samples are STILL there. Logic 9 gives up and there's no option to locate manually.

This is a bit frustrating.

I'm having the same problem: Since upgrading to logic 9, EXS often cannot find the samples linked to an EXS instrument. My preferences in EXS 24 are set to search All Volumes. Logic even has problems finding the factory samples on the system drive. A temporary fix I've found is to "Refresh Menu" (in the EXS instrument menu), and then restart Logic. This solves the problem for a bit, but eventually, I'll try to load a new EXS instrument, and Logic will not be able to find the associated samples.

sorry, but there is is no default samples folder, you can keep your samples whereever you want (as in versions before). exs-preferences and "search all volume" doesn't work. i also tried to locate alias of the samples folder in your mentioned "default" samples folder, but this didn't work either.

i have so much samples, i would never want to put them in a so called defalt samples folder on a local harddrive. i always keeo them on a large external drive.

Default is where they are installed at the first place

Yes of course

it does work.....I clarified what i mean by "default" above...doesn't need much thought?does it?

i have so much samples,

me too and I never had any bugs /issues with locating them

That's great!
Good luck!

ok, i got you 😉

many of the samples were made by myself, and many were created on a windows system. so the locations are very different and i cannot create the same structure of directories on my mac.

what i do not understand is: why does logic not search for the samples? logic even starts no activities to search - normally i would expect rumouring of my harddrives 😉

but only hangs up and stops doing anything.

Could you be more specific pls?
Where each .exs Sampler Instrument and its samples you've created is located, where you have placed the aliases?
Are you able to see the EXS instruments you created in the EXS's Instrument menu?

If the aliases are not correctly placed ...it stops as it's broken...if that makes sense

as i wrote before, i can see the EXS Instruments in the EXS Intruments Menu. Even if i switch to edit mode in the exs-sampler and load the instrument from there, i can see that the regions ands zones are recognized but the monitor freezes again, no samples are loaded...)
I copied the *.exs Files to the default directory of logic (MacHD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/13 Old Stuff. There i have the *.exs-files in different folders.

The Samples are on an external Firewire Harddrive in one folder named EXSamples (there i have of course many subfolders).

At this moment I do not use any Aliases anymore.

thanx,
Xl

Try copying the .exs files (folder) to *User(your name)>Library>Application Support>Logic>Sampler Instruments*

The Samples(audio files) or aliases need to be in *User(your name)>Library>Application support>Samples*

The Samples are on an external Firewire Harddrive in one folder named EXSamples (there i have of course many subfolders).

Create an Alias and drop it in the location mentioned above

i tried this and it still didn't work. again, i can see the exs-instruments in the menu window, but loading doesn't work.

i forgot to mention: i only have this problem with my exs-instruments, not with the ones installed by logic studio.... i copied them too (not the samples) and they still work.

i got to go to sleep, its 2am.

i have no further ideas....

but anyway: why does logic not search the samples on my volumes? exs-instrument-progs seem to be ok ( as mentioned before, i can see the notes and zones when i load one of my own instruments in the exs edit menu, but even from there the samples are not loaded or searched)?

good night and thanx a lot,
Xl

Hi,
I am having the exact same issue. Since upgrading to LP 9, some (most actually) of my EXS Samples cannot be found even though their location has not changed on my external drive. From the EXS24 instrument editor window, I can manually map the audio file and it will work but that is unfeasible to do for all my samples.

Here is a screenshot showing the attempted load of an instrument and Logic's failure to locate the sample. The finder window shows the sample as it has always existed on my external.
