Hi

People normally come to these discussion boards when they run into problems, so you are going to and will read more "negative" posts than positive ones... there are the few exceptions when someone will post that the hardware and/or the software works perfectly and flawlessly.

Anyway, my iPhone 3.1 update was OK... honestly I didn't see any diff between the older and the new OS, ha ha ha LOL

Cheers

Hello,

Here are the problems I am facing since I've upgraded:

- During a phone conversation I get cut off and can't hang up anymore. The phone application seems frozen. I may even need to restart my Iphone to be able to use the phone again.

- My battery life seems to be a lot shorter than before.
- A couple of app have weird behavior and I had to reinstall two of them to get them to work.

I am waiting for some fix of all those ailments

i think these guys above are paid by apple to say that! jk guys. i'm sure there are a few lucky ones who had no problems. as for the OP, i would definitely check out this thread: before updating to 3.1..

Few lucky ones? No the few are the unlucky ones. Complaints here are a microscopic portion of the total universe of iPhone 3GS users. I have no problems. Battery life is fine, although Madden '10 is having a negative effect on battery life! 🙂

The vast majority of people are fine. There's an old scientific maxim called Occam's razor. Essentially, it states that the simplest conclusion is usually the best one. The complex hypothesis is that there is something terribly wrong with OS 3.1. The simple hypothesis is that there is something wrong with how people are handling 3.1 Instead of blaming whatever magical conspiracy that OS 3.1 is messing with everyone's iPhone, I'm going with the conclusion that it's random, probably a direct result of user issues, whether it's overinflated expectations or an app that's not playing well.

Time to move on.

I have had my iPhone 3GS for coming up 2 weeks.

I never used it on 3.0 because when I connected it to iTunes to activate it, it prompted me to update to 3.1.

The first time I charge it up I never let it run out completely (maybe 20 percent) and I found the battery wasn't has good has what it is now. I find that since I have let the battery completely run out till the iPhone powers off or until there is only 2 or 3 percent battery left, that now my battery life is MUCH better.

I never expected my 3GS to have a battery life has good as my previous bog standard phone. But I find that me personally with say 15 minutes worth of calls, 8-10 texts, 1 hour (maybe a bit more) of game playing, checking emails 4 times, 30 minutes worth of surfing, I can usually get 3 days on standby. Admittedly I'm not a heavy user, but considering what the 3GS is, i.e smartphone, then personally I am pleased with the battery life.

Like I mentioned earlier 'I never expected my 3GS to have a battery has good as my previous bog standard phone' because the 3GS will use a lot more power than my previous phone because of the much larger screen and the powerful processor that the 3GS has.

There are a lot of people who are having problems with 3.1 and poor battery life, but I am one of the lucky ones.

I had a thought yesterday that maybe the affected ones who are seen poor battery life since going to 3.1, could it not be that the batteries that are in the iPhone, are maybe made by a number of different manufacturers, and maybe some made by a certain manufacturer have this bug/problem with 3.1?

I've not had any problems with the upgrade. BUT, I allow the iPhone to upgrade through the entire process in iTunes and I always upgrade iTunes first. As far as battery life, its just slightly shorter than the gen 1 iPhone. BUT, the 3GS is MUCH faster and worth the extra battery usage.

I had a first gen iPhone and had only one problem with those upgrades, it wouldn't back my library up to CDs for about three weeks until another update came out, but that was iTunes.

I also do a "reboot" (that's what I call it) by holding down the standby/home buttons down until the apple logo comes up and that seems to keep the memory cleaned out. All's well with my 3.01.
