Removing duplicate email addresses from Address Book

I have searched the archives and have not found a solution to this. I have read where folks have been advised to go to Card------->Look for Duplicate Entries

BUT

This is only good for going through names. Even if I press the MERGE it isn't helpful. If I have 10 cards of 10 different John Smiths - each one with a separate email address - duplicates/merge makes them all one card with one email address - and I lose the other 9.

Does anyone know (besides manually) how to check for duplicate email addresses only (yes, like having a husband and wife on separate cards with same email address being used) and have them removed. Did someone make a handy-dandy little program for this to help out?

You should download and install Mail Scripts, which contains one to find duplicates in Address Book.

I just downloaded the program suggested. Maybe it is too early in the morning for me - but I do not see how it removed duplicates from my address book.

I do see how it has a Remove Duplicates (Mail) and wants to go through Mail to:
Locate all duplicate messages found in the selected mailbox(es) and move them to a separate mailbox for easy removal (on 10.4 and higher, duplicate matching is based on the message source, on 10.3 it is uses the unique message header "Message-Id" for initial matching).

But I still can't see any script for going through the actual address book to removed or flag the same email addresses there.

Anyone?

Sorry, I have a script for doing that on my system and just forgot that Mail Scripts didn't include one.

But you can download a similar utility that will search for and remove duplicatte contacts, not duplicate email addresses, so it will be searching by various criteria. You can download it here: http://mac.wareseeker.com/Utilities/ab-dup-killer-1.0.zip/335827
