fan will not shut off in sleep mode

when I manually put the emac to sleep the fan does shut off, but the fan does not shut off when it goes to sleep automatically based on the energy saver settings. I have done the following so far:
Repaired permissions.
Ran the "Pereferentail Treatment" download.
Deleted com.apple.PowerManagement.plist.
Deleted com.apple.systemuiserver.plist.
(I do not show a com.apple.AutoWake plist in my system config folder which a previous post said should be deleted)
Went to Open Firmware and reset-nvram and set defaults ( mouse works a lot better now).
I have no peripheral USB devices connected.
Disconnected apple keyboard and also the mouse.
Fan still runs when in sleep mode. Thanks.

I have 2 emacs running in the same room.
On both emacs in Energy Saver the only item I have "checked" is "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for". Both computers are set to go to sleep in 10 minutes. One computer goes to sleep (monitor, hard drive) and the fan shuts off. The other machine goes to sleep (monitor, hard drive) and the fan stays on. ??? Thanks.
Also in a previous post it was recommended that I go to user/library/preference and drag the preference folder to the desk top and restart to create new preferences, when I did this I noticed that the newly created preference folder in the library only contained a few preference files ( all new ones) not nearly as many total files as were in the old folder that I dragged to the desk top so I got scared and put the old folder back into the library and wrote over the newly created files. ??? Thanks

When you remove the preference file for an application, it won't be recreated until you run the application again. The ones that were recreated were either created by applications that immediately kicked in when you restarted, or after you had chosen to run the applications (which may themselves have engaged other applications, e.g. a browser downloading a file to be unstuffed by StuffIt Expander.)

If everything appeared to be working normally you could have just deleted the old preference folder on the desktop. Eventually new preferences files will be created. The downside is that some preferences, particularly those for some browsers, can be quite extensive and it might take a lot of work or be next to impossible to recreate them to your liking. Keeping them has advantages. (But I've never had to mess with the complete Preference folder.)

Hope this helps!

Not really. We normally put our eMac to sleep manually, but I checked a little while ago and it went to sleep completely (no fan noise) with the computer and display set to go to sleep after 7 minutes and the hard drive whenever possible.

From time to time I leave the computer on so that Macaroni will do it's thing while I make coffee, and after Macaroni is finished sometimes the display will sleep but the fan will continue to run and sometimes everything does what it's supposed to. My feeling is that the fan running is related to network activity, since Macaroni somehow activates the network connection (PPoE) which has normally been disconnected. (Wild-eyed speculation 😉

michmac...

I still suspect Energy Saver is reacting normal in the way the specific eMac is set. Now as far as the differences between your eMac(s), can be explained that no 2 "alike" computers will act exactly the same in a given case.

I prefer the manual sleep in many ways because Energy Saver isn't my cup of tea. It is because ES seems to have a mind of its own.
