Music not playing with slideshow

Did I mention that my iTunes library is not in the default location? Instead I have a shortcut to a remote drive. Would that make a difference?

Yes, that might make a difference. There's a way to move a library to another location so that all other apps know about it. I believe it's done the iTune's Advance preferences - the Change button. I'd verify that in the iTunes forum first.

The music sample files are stored within the iPhoto.app package file

iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources/Music

And are m4a files. However, I would caution you that messing around inside the application package file may cause iPhoto to stop working altogether.

The Theme music is stored at

HD / LiBarry / Application Support/ iLifeSlideshow / Audio

Again the files are m4a, but in this case each is accompanied by a similarly named plist file.

The same warning applies.

I'm not sure that the location on a different disk is an issue. I have my iTunes library on one with no issues. However, sharing in the iLife apps is governed by xml files in the relevant Library. I know that iPhoto has trouble creating valid xml files on disks not formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Perhaps iTunes does too. So, what format is that disk?

Options:

You can create a smaller iTunes library on your start up disk = Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iTunes. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and move the required tracks there

or yes, you can construct the Slideshow in iMovie, PhotoToMovie or FInal Cut Express.

I had problems with some 3rd party slideshow apps when I had the library on an external HD. However, I'm not sure I moved it there like I told you to do.

If you have Quicktime Pro there is a fairly easy way to add your music to the slideshow. It goes like this:

1 - export the slideshow from iPhoto without the music.
2 - if you have more than one music track to use join them together into a new file with an audio editor like Garageband, Amadeus Pro or Audacity.
3 - open your music track with QT Pro 7.
4 - Open the slideshow movie with QT Pro.
4 - in the slideshow window type Command+A (select all) and then Command+C (copy).
5 - go to the slideshow window in QT Player and select Edit->Add to Selection and Scale.
6 - save the merged item as a self contained movie.

This will add the slideshow to the music and scale the slideshows length to match the music. Don't do it the other way around as the music timing will be altered changing the speed and pitch of the music.

With this method and if you have more than one track you can overlap and fade between tracks eliminating the dead air that often results between tracks. It also will assure that the music will end with the last slide. NOTE: I add a blank, black slide at the end of my slideshows so the last slide fades to black and the music ends on the black slide.

Restart your Machine. Open the new iTunes Library first. Then iPhoto. Does that find them?

Delete the iPhoto, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, and iApps, com.apple.iApps.plist, preference files. Launch iTunes and then iPhoto. See if that will get it working again.
