MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008)

I've had this Macbook Pro for a while now and i just noticed a orange line going across the middle of the screen only when a black background is being applied behind it and it stretches all the way from left to right. I've called Apple about it but my AppleCare is over... :[ Please Help!

Hi Co-Mau,

It sounds like the issue can be related to the LCD panel on your machine. There's a pretty easy way to isolate if the issue is LCD panel specific or an issue with the LVDS cable and/or main logic board.

Do you have access to an external monitor? If so, go ahead and hook it up to your computer (you'll probably need an adapter). Set it to mirror the display and see if you can get the orange line on both displays.

If you do... it's most likely a logic board and/or LVDS cable issue.

If you do not... it's most likely an LCD panel issue.

Any of these issues can be arranged as an out-of-warranty service option through Apple, and the price (assuming no damage to the machine) usually runs about $400.00 USD
