Open error 1 - Operation not permitted' error when checking permissions

Hi

I just installed Snow Leopard on a clean HD, and when checking permissions I get these errors:

Is there anything to look out for here? What have I done wrong? Did I reformat my drive incorrectly? I chose Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Tried also to fix permissions from the install disk but got the same errors.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Keep in mind, these are not permissions but "messages".

If you are not having any problems with your Mac, don't be concerned about these messagess.

More info here on messages that you can safely ignore. "SUID"..

these are some mighty weird error messages.
I've never seen "Open error 1" ones. check what the actual permissions on those files are.
Run the following terminal command 9copy and paste, please) and post the results


ls -ladeO "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.3/lib/python2.3/lib-dynload/itertools.so"

Ok just did that...

This is what terminal shot out back at me:

ok, I get the same results. so this looks to be a false positive due to an error in the permissions database. have you installed 10.6.1 update? try installing it. if you already installed it reinstall it again. see if it affects the errors.

I had already installed the 10.6.1 update, but just to be sure I did it again.... just run permissions again and I still get the exact same error messages. no change.

then I would probably just leave them alone as they appear to be false positives and not actually wrong permissions. still, I'm curious what's causing them as I haven't seen such error messages before.

Hmm I haven't seen so many errors either.

It could have something to do with me running snow leopard on a Macbook Pro 2.16 core duo and not a core 2 duo... ? I know that I can only get 32 bit performance... but still i notice quite a difference in speed. 🙂

no, that would not have anything to do with it. as i said, those are most likely just errors in the permissions database. as i said, leopard was notorious for those. snow leopard is not as bad but produces a number of them too. I just haven't seen this particular kind of messages before. reinstalling SL will fix them but it seems like a serious overkill in this case.

haha funny you say that, cause this is already my second install 🙂 the first one had the same error messages as well. oh well, back to the drawing board.
