NTL World e.mail

Hi, has anyone managed to set up NTL e.mail on their iPhone? I have tried all sorts of different combinations of pop, imap user name password, etc, etc. but cannot get it to work.
Virgin have confirmed the settings and my user name / password, but it still does not work.
I am able to access my ntl account on Thunderbird and as a webmail application.

Win XP Pro, iPhone OS 3.0.1

there is 3 ways of setting up the email, the easyest method is to have your email
account setup in Oulook 2003 or 2007 or Outlook Express and then sync mail accounts
using iTunes. If that is not possible then option 2 is to make sure that you don`t
have any email accounts setup on the iPhone then connect to a Wi-Fi hot spot, tap the email icon, enter email address & let the iPhone find it`s settings. The 3rd & final way is to set up the email account manually, to do this goto settings/Mail, Contacts, Calenders Tap Add Account then Tap Other & enter the required details,
go back to Mail settings and Tap on the newly created account & check that all of the following settings are correct

POP Infomation

Name : Put Your Name Here
Addess : Your Eamil Address
Description : Discription of Email

Incomming Mail Server

Host Name : pop.ntlworld.com
User Name : Your ntl Username
Password : Your ntl password

Outgoing Mail Server

SMTP : smtp.ntlword.com

Next Tap on Advanced and check the following settings

Use SSL : OFF
Authentication : Password
Server Port : 110

next go back to tyhe mail settings & Tap on SMPT, in Other SMTP Servers
Tap on Add Server and enter the following

Host Name : smtp.o2.co.uk

Tap on save (may take up to 15 mins for O2 the respond to setting)

Last of all turn the other smtp server ON (this is required for sending emails
when not connected to a Wi-Fi hot spot)

hope this helps.

Hello PlatmumK, thank you very much for this, it is the closest that I have got in a month!
I now have an NTL account on my phone, after getting a message saying that it had successfully been set up.
I appear to still have a problem with it though.....When I switch that account on, it goes through the motions of checking my account, it then tells me that the account was updated at whatever the time is, but it does not download any messages to my inbox. I know that there are unread messages still on the server. I have double checked all the settings and it appears to be correct.

have you tried rebooting the phone by pressing sleep/wake & home buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears, or turning the phone off then back on again. One thing to remember that POP accounts can only be accessed by 1 email client at a time, If you are logged into you email account by using webmail or thunderbird at the same time as checking email on your phone then the emails wont be downloaded to your phone (this is a limitation of POP email accounts).

The above is the best i can offer at the moment, Perhaps someone else
will be able to shed more light.

Hi,
I've got similar problems with NTL mail. I have applied the settings as described and receive the error message *Cannot get mail* - The connection to the server pop.ntlworld.com failed.
Up until 22nd August I could read and send e'mails using my i'phone and iTouch but since then I've been locked out. I've contacted Virginmedia but they couldn't help me.
I have no problem with Mobileme or AOL both have continued to work.
Any ideas??

try completely deleting the NTL email account from phone, turn phone off then back on, re-enter NTL email account info, i can`t garentee that this will work but it has been reported to fix most email problems. If you sync your NTL email with either Outlook or Outlook Express then you could also try connecting your phone to itunes, goto to the iphone`s info tab, scroll all the way down to email accounts, remove check mark from the NTL account, sync phone, replace check mark, sync phone (this will remove the NTL email account from phone then put it back on again).

Also are your O2 APN settings correct,

For Pay & Go customers the Celluar Data APN should be payandgo.o2.co.uk & MMS APN should also be payandgo.o2.co.uk

For those that are on contract the Celluar Data APN should be mobile.o2.co.uk & MMS APN should be wap.o2.co.uk

if your lost of email started after the CARRIER update then i would check to make sure that the APN settings are correct.
