Q: iTunes sync error -50 on iMac, due to new upgrade for iPhoto

iTunes 9.0.1
iTouch 2.2.1

I'm unable to sync my 2nd Gen Touch - recvd error "The iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

I read previously that the problem was with syncing photos. I was able to 'uncheck' photo sync and it did work - but wondering if there is a fix for being able to sync photos.

In a previous thread they mentioned that upgrading to iTunes 9.0.1 fixed their problem - however it has NOT fixed mine. I have NOT upgraded my touch to the new 3.0 - is that required?? How can I get my photos to sync again?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Ever since I installed the new iPhoto update and I too get the iTunes sync error (-50). I deleted the cache in the iPod folder, as suggested, and although it opened a whole bunch of GBs on my HD, it didn't do a blessed thing to my iTunes syncing capability.

What's more the new iPhoto update made it so that my iPhone events do not show up at all on iTunes, so I would have to sync my entire iPhoto library, or none of it. I think the new update screwed all this up.

Anyone know how to rollback an iPhoto update to the last one?

    Thanks

I'm having the same issue where my iphone 3GS and ipod touch 2nd gen get the error 50 when syncing. I have the most recent version of itunes, iphone OS, and iPhoto. I've also deleted my ipod photo cache but I still get the same error. I'm assuming there is an easy fix I'm missing... any ideas? I did uncheck the syncing of iphoto in itunes so I can still sync them but can't add photos which is what I'm trying to do. Thanks!

Count me in as another person this happened to. I cannot sync my photos anymore with any device because iTunes doesn't recognize my iphoto library anymore.

Common iphoto team! Let's get an update to fix this mess.

I'm in the same place as all you with my iPod Touch 32gb. My wife's 80gb iPod Classic also gets the same message "error (-50)".
I've tried INGO's suggestion with my iPhoto cache, and I'm using iPhoto '09.

Still no luck. Even tried deleting my iPod Touch backup, and have removed all non-apple apps, and tried restoring my iPod, no go.

Like some others I cannot select any other options that to sync photos from either folders or iPhoto, but when selecting the Iphoto option I can only choose the first of the two iPhoto options and cannot select individual events, etc.

Add my name to the list of those with the -50 error on my iPod Touch and my brand new iPod Nano. What a bummer. OK, Apple Engineers...have another whack at fixing this! Hopefully a new iTunes/iPhoto update install with be the answer. And yes, all my Apple apps are up to date.

This -50 thing is also happening on my OS 10.6 MacBook. Grrrrrr!

If I export my photos to a folder, I can successfully sync that folder. But iPhoto is a no-go.

Luvlabs - no new iPhoto '09 update... I checked. Maybe you haven't updated in a while so it seems new. Thanks anyways though.

Having the same problem with my 2nd Gen iTouch w/ vers 3.1.2
    Running SL 10.6.2 iTunes 9.02 iPhoto'09 v 8.1.1 on 20" Intel iMac
Have restored the iTouch, removed the iPod Photo Cache as suggested, and still get the error IF I have any photos to synch to iTouch. If no photos are to be synched it works fine with no error!!!
In the progress bar, the synch of photos goes about 3/4 the way across before exhibiting the -50 error and shows space used on the iTouch capacity bar.

    Any other ideas????

I discovered it when I installed my new iMac - 8.1.1 dated 24 November. Not that new, I guess.

Seems like the (-50) error is due to the version of iTunes being used: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2985

I know some of you still have the problem despite iTunes 9. I would suggest that you go through the standard fix routines - repair disk permissions and completely removing iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224), restarting, and downloading a new copy.

I have the same issue with my iPhone.

I've noticed that from the sync menu within iTunes, when I select the photos tab I only have the option of no photos or all photos (which doesn't work). I can not select the option to sync a selection of albums.

Does anyone know, if I totally uninstall iTunes, will my databast also be gone - ie play counts, ratings etc. If so, that's a step too far.

    Thanks

You music and play lists, counts, etc. are contained in your iTunes library (Finder > Your Name > Music). iTunes is contained in Applications and the other bits and pieces you need to remove are in Library). Unless you do something totally crazy, your music and settings will be safe.
