Smart Playlist Not Syncing The Songs Correctly (iPod Touch 2nd Generation)
Since upgrading to itunes 9.0 (and even installing 9.0.1.) my top 25 most played songs are not the top 25 top songs played in my itunes its 25 random songs from my library, Recently Added or Recently Played playlist does not display the recently added or recently played in iTunes, however if I make a non-smart playlist, it works. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? (And i've tried restoring my iPod)
I have the same problem... i try delete my list and create it again and nothing.... i think this problem is from itunes 9.0 and Iphone OS 3.0.1... I hope Apple Know the problem and them fix it... We only can wait for upgrade.
found a couple of other threads from a few years back where Apple broke smart playlist functionality - disabling sorted those issues (and appears to sort this), but obviously you lose one of the more compelling features of smart playlists...
as to whether apple will fix this - i'm not holding my breath. they appear to have moved on from supporting smart playlist functionality
I have the same issue. I have and Ipod Touch 2nd Gen and as my guarantee runs out in a few days, thought that i should ring apple and discuss the matter. I spent over an hour talking to a woman on a paying phoneline before she realised it was the same on her Iphone. Typical. Thats some of my money down the drain.
My Top 300 smart playlist stopped working a while back and I was getting so frustrated with it. I read this forum tonight and turned off the live updating as suggested. Everything works fine now. Thanks!
There is work around out there for your smart playlist. Click on your smart playlist and to go File-> Get Info. Add a new rule - select 'playlist' in the first column then 'is' and finally "Music" in the final column then resync your iPhone/iPod
Make sure you have "Match all of the following rules:" selected
Thanks.
I was able to fix one playlist with the "Playlist is music" workaround and one (for which I cannot select "Match all of the following rules" because it combines 2 genres) by temporarily turning off live updating.
This problem did not emerge for me until I updated both iTunes (to 9.0.3) and iPhone (to 3.1.3) yesterday, at which point the playlist indicated "No music" on the iPhone. Interestingly, the songs show up on the iPhone playlist in iTunes.
Sorry to post about my iPhone in an iPod touch discussion, but this is where I found the question and the solution that worked for me.
I, like Patrick, did not notice the syncing issues until after updating iTunes and the iPhone software yesterday. However, the fix listed above did work.
What I want to know is: Did the latest updates correct the "live updating" problem. I have a smart playlist with all my podcasts. Using version 3.0 and live updating my smart playlist automagically removes a podcast from the list after I finish playing it. So does anyone know if this has been addressed in the latest update?
NU - Apple: THANKS VERY MUCH for the work around on this issue. My Top 25 Most Played smart playlist was garbage on my Touch, even though it worked okay on my Nano. Your workaround to add the rule worked GREAT.
@NU Apple: Thanks so much for the workaround, works a treat on my 3G S running 3.1.2. Was so annoying having in particular my Top 25 most played and Recently Added all jumbled and wrong, but that worked a treat, thanks!
Not even sure of the logic behind it- the items there were already in the Music playlist. Guess it just forces the playlist to update upon syncing to sort it out... Still, great easy fix, thanks!
