Achieving that wonderful Richard Tee sound

I'm trying to emulate that swirling 70's Richard Tee sound w/o buying a small stone.

I just can't get it right with the retro chorus pedal in MS 2.

Anyone have any suggestions?

G5 Dual 2.5. MBP 2.33 17 inch, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

That's because the SmallStone is a phaser, not a chorus. 🙂

Mk I Rhodes + SmallStone phaser + Roland Jazz Chorus 120 (or Fender Twin Reverb) = forget emulation.

But you can get a useful approximation, for sure.

What sound, his piano? Because that's more the playing then the sound.

Maybe a youtube reference or an upload or something so we can actually hear what you're on about.

At the risk of repeating myself:

The piano sound is a Fender Rhodes Mk 1 with an Electro-Harmonix SmallStone phaser, run through probably either a Jazz Chorus or a Twin Reverb.

You're right. I just saw the info when i moused over the Retro Chorus pedal in MS2 and it said for that swirling 70's sound. I didn't even think.

So with the effects available in MS2 which one(s)could get that sound.

OK then, EVP1 ( suitcase mk1 preset ) bit of the EVP's phaser, amp designer: model British combo, ribbon mic, touch of reverb.

Actually my emulation above wasn't that far off, just roll of the bass a tad and up the EVP's phaser.

In case you missed it:

EVP1 ( suitcase mk1 preset ) bit of the EVP's phaser, amp designer: model British combo, ribbon mic, touch of amp reverb.

It's all over the "One-Trick Pony" album as well.

That's a Mark I Suitcase (not Stage), with wide panning tremolo on the internal speaker and a SmallStone patched in before the Suitcase tremolo speaker.

Thor, if nothing else, thanks for the links, what a great groove.

Here's my take...

Load up an EXS24, select 04 Electric Stage MKII, turn off the EXS24 filter.
Channel EQ: dump some of the low end, add a boost at 1.5 and 5kHz.
Add a stereo delay, adjust to taste
Add a phaser w/med light phase and some feedback
Add one of Logic's lesser reverbs, (for authenticity)

Richard Tee was a monster of a keyboardist, and as a sax player, I have him on lots of my Tom Scott Albums and CDs.

It's too bad that he's not with us anymore.

As for the post, I was looking for anybody's input on the phase pedal in Mainstage 2 and what setting of that pedal would come close to the sound. I guess the phase in the Logic effects insert will work as well.

I'll set the keyboard up a little later tonight and check some of your suggestions
