Update iPhone without internet access?

Hi,
I no longer have internet access at home, but need to update my iPhone to 3.1.
Can I download the update at work, put it on a flash drive, then update at home? If so, how? Or is there some other way?
I'm hoping I can do this without having to lug my 24" iMac to the library or coffee shop for the WiFi!!

You need internet access to both download the update, and to install it. So no, your plan won't work.

The iPhone Technical Specifications page and the back of the box list "Internet access" as a system requirement.

Guess I'll be lugging my Mac to a Wifi zone!
A little ironic since having the iPhone is the reason I no longer need home internet access (except for this 😉
