unable to sort podcasts other than by release date
In the podcasts area of iTunes, I am unable to sort podcasts other than by release date. If I click on a column other than release date to sort by that, nothing happens. The release date column stays highlighted for sorting. Sorting works fine with music. This problem only happens in the podcasts area.
Is this how iTunes works normally, or is this a bug?
Macbook Black Core 2 Duo 2.2,
Mac OS X (10.6.1),
iPhone 3GS 32GB
I have had the same bug for about 2-3 weeks - prior to this my Podcasts sorted by release date and then in numeric order perfectly every day. I subscribe to two different podcasts from the web, each is a daily 3 hour show. They used to download by date and numeric order, 1, 2, 3 (3 hours in sequence) and all looked fine in the iTunes Podcast screen and in iPod. Now they transfer to my iPod and look in correct order on my Mac's screen and on the iPod when it's connected to my Mac. However, when I disconnect the iPod, and turn it on, the Podcasts are always in reverse order, 3, 2, 1, but in correct date order in the iPod. Nothing corrects this - re-installing my iPod iTunes software does nothing. I believe this is a bug related to the recent upgrade for iTunes from 8.x to 9.x If anyone has a fix for this absence of numeric sorting, please advise. Thank you.
I have this problem too. Its a real pain. I downloaded a load of new podcasts, thinking I could sort them by date downloaded but because of this issue I can't. I have tried restarting my computer but to no avail.
Has anyone ANY idea how to fix this issue?!!! Its driving me nuts. I deleted the iTunes plist but that didn't help. I've updated iTunes to 9.03 still no joy.
Hey, Cute Crow...I just discovered the same issue. Seems new to me this week. I deleted .plists, etc and all I get is the option to sort by release date.
I have zero idea as to what caused this, but I can't sort the podcast by any other attribute. And it just seemed to happen spontaneously.
The other bit of weirdness was a warning that my volume had been set to zero. Never saw
that before, either.
Options for sorting podcasts are sorely restricted. If you want to play them in a specific order create a playlist or use a tag editor to tweak the release date so they play in the "correct" order.
I don't have an iPod and I don't buy Digital music ( I like podcasts and listen to them on my phone, just use iTunes to get the podcasts!). But this has definitely put me off going for an iPod&iTunes setup. When it goes wrong you're left high and dry. Despite iTunes updates it has been bust for over 8 months with no sign of a fix!
I found a work around that may help others. (iTunes 9.1)
Select podcast from the left menu. Set the view to Grid (top right middle of the 3 icons). You are now presented with big icons of the podcas "covers". Double click on a "cover" icon and you will go into a list view of that podcast only.
In that view I was able to organize the podcasts under any other "column" headings like date added, "release date" "bit rate" etc. This allowed me to select the podcasts I wanted by "date added"( albeit in a round about way)
I think I've found an answer: Highlight the podcast and right click on it. Choose Get Info and go to the Options tab. Change the Media Type to Audiobook and accept it. Now your podcast shows up in the Books section in the correct order.
Hope this helps.
Apple *****, but so does Microsoft. I wish there were better options.
