best MIDI to Mac interface

I'm fairly new to Logic Pro and MainStage and am planning on using MS in a professional pit orchestra situation. I've got a couple of questions: 1) What is the best, most efficient (least latency) MIDI interface available? 2) can I load sound from a sample library on to my Mac and access them through Logic?
Thanks!

I believe Blueberry is only referring to USB latency with regards to MIDI. USB latency for audio can be an issue with certain equipment, especially if you try to run equipment through a USB hub (several USB audio devices don't work properly through a USB hub).

Although you do know that there are interfaces that provide audio + MIDI over firewire? I have a MOTU Ultralite, and I only need a firewire cable, and it provides firewire audio + MIDI.

Ah, I didn't read his post carefully enough, thanks, that is more consistent with my experience.

For some odd reason my Apogee Duet's Maestro program is crashing every time I try to open it, even after updating to the newest version, restarting, etc. I'm on a new MBP with 10.6.1, and have done all updates. Don't mean to hijack this thread, but since it's on interfaces, any ideas? The Duet unit works, but I can't change the configuration. Anybody else, or any ideas?

thx
Neil
