battery display in iPhone 3G (not S!)

I know the iPhone 3Gs can display the battery % in native but can anyone tell me how to display the battery % in iPhone 3G (not S)
I know there is third party software can do it, just want to know if it can happen in native iPhone OS.
if not, then it's a little bit more of the feature for iPhone 3G which Apple needs to help the current users to get. Afterall, it's the little-bit-more-than-others that gets us to use Apple product!

it's not possible to display it in the status bar on an iphone 3g with official software.

there are several apps in the app store that will tell you percentage but there are none that can take over the status bar to display it there.

if not, then it's a little bit more of the feature for iPhone 3G which Apple needs to help the current users to get. Afterall, it's the little-bit-more-than-others that gets us to use Apple product!

there have been many discussions as to why they didn't include it... doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult technically.
