Ok I'm in need of some advice: my iPhone 3Gs crashes windows explorer the very second I plug the USB cable into my PC. I've restored the iPhone, reinstalled iTunes, turned off my firewall and ensured no other USB devices are plugged in too. My pc has had a fresh Vista 32 bit build too.
Thanks
ps I have the latest iPhone firmware too.
I actually had this problem too for the last, ummm, 4 months atleast.
Well today I fixed it somehow. How exactly? Im not sure lol.
But ill try and just tell you everything that I did 🙂
BTW i have Vista 32-Bit Home Premium, Service Pack 2, running the newest iTunes, newest iPhone firmware for my iPhone 1st gen. (not 3G or 3GS :[ ), and got this error over and over when I; Plug-in iPhone, Un-Plug iPhone, as well as when i Open "My Computer" directory:

+Okay, what i did was+:
-Control Panel
>Hardware and Sound
>Device Manager
-Then i clicked on portable devices and i clicked un-install.
-Then restarted my computer with iPhone still plugged-in.
-Then I let it re-install itself upon boot.
(I still had the problem, but just trying to list everything lol)
So from there I figured I look into the USB ports and mess around haha
-So I went back to Device Manager.
-Clicked on the "+" for "Universal Serial Bus Controller".
-Here is where i found something in the list that had "iPhone" something, not sure exactly what it said but if it has anything iPhone in there, thats it (*i hope 8P )
-I right-clicked this and then clicked un-install.
-w/ iPhone still plugged in, re-start your computer.
-Upon boot, your computer should find your iPhone and install it...this is when my problem was not there anymore 😀
*Another thing that you should look into and report back to me is....when you plug in your iPhone, how does your computer respond exactly?
Does it do any of the following:
1.Crash right away?(Windows Explorer)
2.Pop-up with a window that has your iPhone in there as a memory device, showing how much memory you have? (should say something like Apple iPhone: Internal Memory. Then list how much memory you have, mine says "2.68 GB free of 2.68 GB" which is just telling me the amount free i have, dont the total with used memory.
3.Pop-up with the "Auto-Play" window asking what to do (EX: view pictures, etc.)
*If #2 or #3, does it crash afterwards sometime, like when clicking on "My Computer" etc.?
I hope this helps you. Just mess around with Device Manager long enough like un-installing your iPhone and anything that says iPhone lol. I did this for maybe 1 hour and fixed it 🙂
Ill keep track of this thread and try and help you out 😉
Thanks,
Joey
