Jan 20, 2011 5:31 PM in response to jul35by Deskjocky,Happened to me yesterday and thankfully my bank contacted me to check if I had made 10 purchases on iTunes. If it wasn't for their action, I dread to think what may have happened. Whilst apple 'help' did get back to me with the usual advice (like I wouldn't have changed everything anyway!!), all they have managed to do is suspend my account!! Hello - a bit late for that don't you think?
I will not be buying ANYTHING from ITunes until they can show everyone on this forum that THEY take some responsibility for these fraudulent charges, and repay the victims of this crime.
By the way, I have told a lot of other iTunes users about this, so that is a massive amount of revenue that Apple are now losing!! Enjoy your break Steve! -
Jan 23, 2011 8:41 PM in response to drock819by dan weisberg,I have been hacked yet again. Wen through this last year and the police were unable to get anywhere with Apple. Just have to cancel the credit card, and as suggested earlier don't leave card info on file. If need be purchase iTunes gift cards and use as needed. Not worth the aggravation to try to pursue individually as this scam originates in Vietnam and China, and no one including Apple or the banks affected seems interested or capable of pursuing it. -
Jan 26, 2011 10:55 AM in response to jul35by ClaymoreUK,go here to see more -its happening all over the place - It seems that apple are not doing much to plug this particular hole
I just got hit for £125 but the HSBC have been very sharp and their customer service and fraud departments are on the case right now.
I got my cash reimbursed within a couple of hours, so someone knows whats going on.
Looking at the recent threads were looking at hundreds of thousands of pound here.

Jan 31, 2011 7:06 PM in response to jul35by Wiki69,Someone charged $106.24 to my credit card for I-tunes. I thought this was a secure account and am disgusted that someone was able to access my information. I thought Apple was better than this. -
Feb 1, 2011 2:40 AM in response to jul35by robkenyon,Woke up this morning from a phone call from the bank, apparently someone has made £150 worth of purchases overnight, they bought gift cards via my itunes account, now I'm usually pretty good with internet security, I know a phishing email when I see one, so the only way I can see they have stolen my password is either through apple, or, over my phone network or wifi network... its not an issue with my debit card as it has come straight from my itunes account, there is nothing else dodgy with my bank although I have cancelled my card and changed all my itunes passwords as precaution! Whats interesting is that the 5 x giftcards have been purchased as 'monthly gift for *****' and the * is my itunes password! anyone else suffered anything similar? specifically the gift card part? -
Feb 17, 2011 4:00 AM in response to robkenyonby Gripe,Yes, robkenyon, I just had the same thing happen to me. Fortunately PayPal suspended my account right away (well, after I had been hit with $300). Unfortunately, they went ahead and withdrew all that money from my bank account. After doing some research, it sounds like it's not even worth the bother to contact Apple, they don't seem to really care.
My charges also showed up as $50 allowance purchases to my password. So, it's clear that someone got ahold of my password. This happened shortly after I downloaded some updates to some apps, so I can't help wondering if there are some trojan apps that are grabbing iTunes usernames and passwords. I definitely did not respond to a phishing attempt. -
Feb 17, 2011 7:54 AM in response to jul35by CEP1958,Add me to the growing list of fraud cases regarding iTunes. I was charged for 4 $50.00 transactions overnight via my PayPal account which then put my checking account into the negative. From what I can tell, $50 gift cards were purchased, probably to re-sell at a discounted rate. I have disputes in progress with PayPal and my bank but there is no sense of urgency from anyone. Wachovia mails claim paperwork in 7-10 business days - regular US mail, no e mail, no faxing. PayPal also says 5-10 business days for a resolution reply. I have no payment information stored in my iTunes account so in this case, I feel the problem lies with PayPal. When and if this is resolved, no more PayPal account for me. -
Feb 17, 2011 1:47 PM in response to CEP1958by rangere51,We are dealing with this right now. We woke up to 34 paypal transactions for 50.00 each all coming from the iTunes store the other day. This has been a complete nightmare! After we get this figured out we will delete our iTunes account and never look back. -
Mar 14, 2011 7:59 AM in response to jul35by 19pm73,Interesting twist: Last July, someone used my iTunes account to buy four $50 gift cards. I had a very secure password (all kinds of characters, caps, lower case, numbers - the whole shebang), my computer scanned clean for keyloggers or viruses, and I never respond to e-mails that request identifying information; of course, Apple refused to admit that the breach had anything to do with its own encryption or software. I changed my password & security questions, and thankfully my bank refunded the fraudulent charges. I no longer store a credit card number on iTunes, instead going through the hassle of entering my information every time I want to make a purchase, then deleting it immediately thereafter.
However, a couple of days ago I received a receipt for two more $50 gift cards that I did not purchase. I checked my iTunes account, and no credit card information was on file, but my city, state and zip had been changed. I checked the receipt, and the credit card used is not one that belongs to me. Obviously some criminal got back into the iTunes store and used my account information along with a stolen or fraudulent credit card number to make purchases.
I don't understand why Apple can't trace where these purchases are being used. I have reported this to Apple and received a very personable response, but it bothers me that even the newest security patch hasn't made iTunes more secure. I have again changed my security questions and password, but it's ridiculous that these breaches keep happening. I've had an account with Amazon for more than a decade and never had any problems; my iTunes account has been compromised twice in less than a year. -
Apr 11, 2011 10:07 PM in response to jul35by bluez3,do people generally get their itunes credit restored? what is the best to expect from this situation? i just got robbed of $75 worth of itunes credit i had sitting in my account from a bunch of redemptions i made on itunes gift cards. luckily i removed my credit card info. but the money went to purchase a bunch of honor credits for this "world war" game by storm8.
it is disgusting that, there is no phone support for this matter, and although the itunes support pages state that i should contact apple immediately, all i am offered is a circular link of useless support pages, and a link to send an email.
who is this storm8 app developer? and why hasnt apple removed their apps as suspect in a bunch of these fraud cases? -
May 17, 2011 5:03 PM in response to 19pm73by kate70,I just had 2 $50 gift cards charged to my account. Its very frustrating. Apple has acknowledging the unauthorized charges but putting the burden on me instead of looking into their security flaws. Is apple doing anything to look into these security issues?

May 19, 2011 4:58 PM in response to jul35by jezstarr,Same thing happened to me, luckily all I had was a $25 gift card and no credit card information. It is ridiculous that Apple has such a huge leak, you'd think a company this big would have better security. I was just starting to buy more music instead of downloading it illegally....not going to happen now! Way to lose yet another customer, Apple.

May 23, 2011 12:55 PM in response to jul35by jezstarr,Ok my bad...Apple support got back to me and refunded my losses. Maybe their policies have changed or maybe the amount was small enough or maybe it was because it was a gift card, but I`m happy it worked out. Definitely never saving my credit card info though!

Jun 10, 2011 9:57 AM in response to jul35by jaygee500,It's my turn. June 9, 2011 - $978 from 17 charges on my Paypal account. Itunes shows all purchases are from Storm8 LLC.
I use a strong password and have never been hacked. The password leak is through Apple.
Paypal reversed charges. I removed CC from Itunes Store.
Shame on Apple for doing nothing about this and turning a blind eye.
Shame on Storm8 who denies they are part of the problem...
I used to be a BIG Apple fan too...
