Hi Bee (Delaware). You replied concerning this same topic to "bassplayer" on Jun 23, 2010, yes, over a year ago.

Anyway, in addition to following your advice and getting rid of CT and apart from offering my thanks, I have a little extra information on the topic.

Quite serendipitously (what a word - thanks LC), I discovered an additional file related to CT in /Library/Receipts, namely the "InstallHistory".plist". If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".

Maybe it is harmless, but I trashed it anyway along with all that other good stuff you mentioned over a year ago.

One would think that in over a year, whoever is responsible would get their act together, but maybe this CT business is not accidental? If it is deliberate I hope it is NOT a sign of a trend.

Thanks a million for being so helpful Bee. You see, even a year later, your words echo through time and still do good.  :- )

    Have a great day everybody.

By the way, the previous discussion on getting rid of CT is found at

    gilli --

You just made my whole weekend!  And thanks so much for the extra information. You would think that *&^% app would be programmed right (or wiped off the map) by now, wouldn't you?

    Hi Bee,

Here is a screenshot of my Trash containing all the nasty bits and pieces just so you nice folks can know what you are looking for. You can also see a larger image at <>.

I am glad I have made someone happy Bee. I live on Vancouver Island out in the Pacific and I guess we are a long way apart. I visited New York and Baltimore many times, but a while ago now. Guess it has all changed dramatically like everywhere else.

Have a great weekend everyone and stay cool in Delaware.

Goto: Applications folder, Open Toolbar folder, Click on un-install toolbar, page launches 'Toolbar Uninstalled'.

DO NOT click on the link otherwise toolbar Re-installs, Goto: 'Command Q'

Cmd, alt, esc, force quit all open applications and re-launch finder.

Re-launch Safari and the annoying message should be gone - best regards from a UK MAC '89 vet.

Use the link in my previous entry dated August 20/2011. It will give you the solution. It takes you to my website where you will find the solution to getting rid of the "Community Toolbar".

    Here is that link again

If it doesn't work just copy or cut and paste it in the browser URL field or web address name field. Then press the enter key or return key on your keyboard to go to my website where you will find the solution to getting rid of the "Community Toolbar".

I just tested the cut and paste method and it works. The link should work also.

Let me know how you get on.

That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!

Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:

    /Library/Application Support/Conduit

    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg

    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle

    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit

where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.

If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:

    Library/Application support/conduit plugins

    Also, as mentioned by Gilli2000:

Library/Receipts - If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".

Maybe it is harmless, but trash those items anyway!

Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery.

That is terrific Klaus. Why do we have to expend our energies like this?

Anyway, I want to add that there I have 2 entries for August 20, 2011, not one. Read them both and especially the comments by Klause.

If you don't understand something I have written just ask and I will be pleased to try and help further if I can.

    All the best.

Thank you SO much for the help with this problem!!!! I received this message every time I clicked on Safari! I did as you said, and went into my applications where I saw a folder marked "toolbars". It was empty, so I dragged it to the trash can and now I don't get the pop up anymore!! Thank Heaven for small favors! LOL!!

How do you find a "toolbar folder"? I can 'Hide' or 'Show' the Safari Toolbar, but where is the "folder" located? And will I find an "uninstall" to click on?

I don't remember having installed the "Community Toolbar."  The pop-up just appeared one day.

Note: The 'pop-up'  doesn't prevent me from doing, clicking, going to websites. I can just click it off,

BUT, I would like to get rid of it.

    My Safari version: 5.1.2

Your aother suggestion:  "If you do not have the "toolbar" folder, then re-install the Safari Community Toolbar app, then perform above."   If needed where do I find the Safari Community Toolbar app?
