Use the link in my previous entry dated August 20/2011. It will give you the solution. It takes you to my website where you will find the solution to getting rid of the "Community Toolbar".

    Here is that link again

The Communty Toolbar was installed by Free Dictionary

I would like to thank bgo7462 for some great advice on removing the "Community Toolbar" pop-up nuisance.  It worked perfectly.

@awkwardindeed Thanks! That helped me get rid of the note that kept popping up even though I wasn't using the software's toolbar. Awesome!

What ***** right now, this thread is from started in 09 but now in 2012 I'm trying this method but apparently the Conduit website that you get the Community Toolbar does not have a version for my Safari 5.1 so I'm ____'d out at the moment but I hope when they do have a toolbar that supports my browser, this method works

Let's run this by you again:

That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!

Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:

    /Library/Application Support/Conduit

    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader

    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg

    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg

    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle

    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit

where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.

If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:

    Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist

    Library/Application support/conduit plugins

    Also, as mentioned by Gilli2000:

Library/Receipts - If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".

Maybe it is harmless, but trash those items anyway!

Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery.

Klaus, where do I find the root library on my hard drive to get rid of community toolbar?  Just consider that I'm a monkey behind the wheel of a 747 and that will explain my technical knowledge

  • LizElwell Level 1 Level 1 (10 points)

Klaus, I know this is an older post, but I did what you suggested and it got rid of the community toolbar.  I didn't know to go to Finder>go>go to folder to type those instructions above.  Thank you so much...

  • LizElwell Level 1 Level 1 (10 points)

This solved my problem.  I don't know how to get that points thingy in here.

    Hi folks,

I noticed that the CT files had become overshadowed by other photos and videos on my website. I have fixed it so that you can see them without the need to sign in anywhere. "Seeing" screenshots helps understanding I believe and I hope my screenshots can help.

BTW, I have just installed a week or so ago, Cookie by <sweetpproductions.com>. It sure fixes tracking and privacy interference by Google, FaceBook, even my own bank and a surprising number of surreptitious others!!! Now I can use those same apps secure in the knowledge that no one is following me around anywhere or developing a file on my habits.

It is the same issue as CT and others, one of privacy, the right to know and so forth. "Disconnect" and "Ghostery" also are a huge help in this regard. I also use "DuckDuckGo" as my search enging most of the time nowadays. A funny name, but you find things just the same, and without being tracked and bubbled. Just this morning I was able to add 9 more definitions of bad cookies to my Black List. About 1 in 6 cookies are trackers.

Anyway, nice talking to you all. Cheers!

They are sort of small, but they are smiles anyway!

If is is kudos time, I have quite a few for Klaus. Thanks Klaus for much help when I lacked understanding, past and present. I didn't always make myself known, but read your answers anyway. ☺ ☺ ☺
