Pixelated Dock Icons

What's happened to the beautiful dock icons??? ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/kbla/3962468748/)

Recently a number of my dock icons have turned decidedly low-res. I don't know what caused them to do it first of all, but I have found that when I add new ones (manually) they appear this way.

Any idea why this is happening and how I can stop it?

MacBook Pro 13" 2.53GHz, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

Hi,

Try deleting this file.

com.apple.dock.plist

~/Library/Preferences. Drag that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

It's a temporary fix because I'm also having the pixelated icons appear on the dock. I began by replacing them. A restart and they are fine until another one appears later. I have replaced several icons over the last 2 weeks and dumped the dock.plist file several times as well. Right now it's Safari icon that looks funny.

I wonder what's causing this?

This is not answered. It is not only the Dock, but in Finder and other areas as well such as Dock controlled cmd-tab. The issue is something deeper and I'd certainly like to know the root cause.
