    I went to the Apple store and changed the mini display to DVI adapter. That solved it.

    I´m having the same problem. I´ve tried an official MDP to DVI with a DVI>HDMI cable and not working. After that bought a MDP to hdmi with hdmi>hdmi cable and still the same. I have a 32LG5000.

    What are the usual streps to try to make this work?

    Up until two/three weeks ago, my minidisplay port to hdmi bought from monoprice worked perfectly with my samsung lcd tv ln40a450. Now, the TV no longer recognizes the signal. When the cable is plugged in to the macbook, the blue screen appears and disappears, but still nothing. Tried plugging, unplugging, restarting, turning tv on/off, in all various sequences, but nothing works. I did however find something very peculiar. I was previously using a 15' hmdi cable. When the problem started, I switched to another, shorter (6') hdmi cable, thinking it was the cable problem. That worked... for 3 days. Neither cable works anymore. Tested the cables with my PS3, no problems whatsoever. I will attempt to plug it in to my friend's Sony TV to see if that works and provide an update.

    I have the same problem. I tried connecting my 13 inch macbook pro (2009) through monoprice mini displayport to HDMI adapter to my Sony 40 inch xbr7 TV, as well as samsung 23 inch monitor, but macbook doesn't detect them. When I replug the adapter, the screen goes to blue for a second and then comes back. I tried through system preference -> display properties and clicking "detect display" but nothing happens. My other laptop with hdmi output(HP dv2500) has no problem detecting them.

    hi all, I too am experiencing this issue. I have a 13' macbook pro and for the last 6 months i've been using the mini display port to HDMI with no problems. I've used on multiple tv's so its fine. Today I plugged it in and i get the flashing blue screen and then nothing. Now my wife has a macbook pro 13' as well and I used it on her laptop and it worked flawlessly. So i know my adapter is good, its a software glitch somewhere with mine. I either somehow messed up my mini display port input or i have some kind of software that is blocking the signal.

    Any hints/tips?

    ditto. Brand new (but refurbished - purchased early Dec 2009) macbook pro, 13", OS X 10.6.2 - I have the mini dvi to dvi cable (an apple cable I purchased at Best Buy) and then the dvi to hdmi cable (a Belkin cable I purchased at the Apple store). When I plug the computer into my Samsung LN32B360 I get a blue flash on the computer for a few seconds and then nothing. The computer is simply not detecting the external display after that.

    When I first called Apple about this they told me I had to get the Belkin cable. I was using another brand of dvi-hdmi and even though it looked exactly the same as the Belkin one I did as I was told. That did not fix the problem, however, and when I called back I was told to give up on the HDMI and just use the VGA connector. The guy even tried to convince me that the VGA connection would be better. He told me VGA carried audio and HDMI does not, which I'm pretty sure is not true but I'm not a big computer person so who knows.

    Anyway, I am frustrated with this new purchase and am now regretting it. I purchased this computer in part because I wanted something that would double as a DVD player and let me watch online shows on my TV screen, and I was told a Mac would be able to do this. The guy at the store helped me find the refurbished deal and everything - I was excited. I've always had a great experience with Apple but all of a sudden I feel like I can't do a very basic, obvious thing that I was told I would be able to do and on top of that I am not getting any real help from them.

    A Ro, you've definitely gotten some bad advice, but consider that the Apple adapter may be defective. I would either try it with another display or else return it for a replacement.

    update from my last comment, i purchased the apple mini displayport to dvi cable, and bought a dvi to hdmi cable converter. seems to work without a problem, so far. not sure exactly how, but my mini-display port to hdmi cable probably just stopped working after frequent use. i will update more if i see any problems with this mini displayport to dvi to hdmi setup.

    I don't understand how this is "answered" I have the adapter from apple, and this was working fine for the last couple of months, it just stopped working. Do I need to replace the 2 month old adapter? It seems like the computer recognizes when the tv turns off and on, but the tv just doesn't recognize the computer anymore

    Wendy, if you are constantly handling the adapter a lot, like plugging and unplugging it frequently, then it could have become damaged. That's not impossible. If it's only two months old, Apple should replace it under warranty.

    If the adapter is in a fixed installation and generally untouched, and one day it was working and the next day not, especially after a software update or something like that, then, yeah, I would agree that for a case like that the adapter has probably not gone bad because it's not being regularly handled, or even touched or moved. So it really depends on how it's used whether the adapter is a suspect or not in cases like this.

    Step 1 Locate the MiniDisplay port on the left edge of your computer, between the Ethernet and USB ports. Plug one end of the Mini Display Port adapter into the MacBook. Connect the remaining end to your display unit.
    Step 2 Open the "Apple" menu, located in the upper-left corner of your laptop's display. Click on the option labeled "System Preferences."
    Step 3 Locate the icon labeled "Displays," under the "Hardware" heading. Click on the button labeled "Arrangement."
    Step 4 Click on the checkbox labeled "Mirror Displays," located in the bottom-left corner of the window.
    Step 5 Click on the red button in the upper-left corner to close the "System Preferences" window.

    You need to leave the computer open.

    I'm having the same problem with a Late 2009 Mac Mini.

    MDP>HDMI Monoprice adapter to Samsung LN40B610, no display.
    Apple MiniDVI>DVI, then Monoprice DVI>HDMI adapter, finally Monoprice HDMI cable to TV works fine.

    Either this is an issue with the Monoprice adapters (sounds like those having issues with the Apple adapters had success after getting them replaced?) or I recall some expected issues with the built-in copy protection of DisplayPort. I'll probably do some more research, so I'll reply if I find anything.

    I'm having the same problem:

    The Mac is a 27" iMac, with a MDP. I'm using a Logiix MDT-to-HDMI cable to connect to a BenQ MP625p projector. No signal detected on the projector, no display detected on the Mac. We're going to check cable and adapter, but could this have something to do with the way Apple detects a new display, failing to see an HDMI but capable of detecting a DVI? That would explain why the MDP-to-HDMI adapters don't work, while the MDP-to-DVI-to-HDMI solutions are ok. It would also explain why it suddenly stopped working for many, a software update might have caused it.

    Wow, I thought I was the only one until I found this thread! I'm really frustrated--I didn't even use the cable much before it stopped working, and it seems to still work fine with my brother's new MacBook Pro, so it doesn't seem to be the cable. I think it's a software problem.
