Feb 25, 2011 4:39 PM in response to Ponponheadby gaskell.f,I'm having the same problem. I went through several moshi mdp hdmi adapters and the hdmi cable works on other devices.
I had a mid-2010 27" iMac then it stopped working before I sold it.
Now I have a 13" Macbook Pro I purchased yesterday and it still doesn't work. Then I found this thread.
Why haven't they addressed this issue? -
Feb 27, 2011 6:30 AM in response to Ponponheadby ::Kobe::,same problem here with the cablesson HDMI-adaptor: blue blink when connected - but nothing else.
Does the new Thunderbolt connector solves this issue? (on early 2011 macbook pro's -offtopic: or was the development of this maybe the cause of it all-)?
Does this problem still exists with the developer preview of OS X Lion?
Does anyone has tried to use Bootcamp > Windows 7? -
Mar 1, 2011 3:16 PM in response to ::Kobe::by centralpath,This is what solved my problem - maybe it will help some of you.
I needed this setup to make it work:
Mini-DVI to DVI then a DVI-HDMI cable. yes somewhat more messy but because of the macbook that I have it's what I needed
now it works -
Mar 1, 2011 6:39 PM in response to centralpathby centralpath,My other problem is that the apple store gave me a mini-display port not a mini-dvi - -
Mar 2, 2011 10:57 AM in response to centralpathby izzo1701,I too am now experiencing this problem. I purchased a macbook air in december, and shortly after picked up the mini display>HDMI Adapter. For about 3 months it seemlessly worked in terms of connecting and displaying a mirrored desktop to my 50" Panasonic. Just this month, I believe after the recent update to 10.6.6, all of a sudden i can't get the macbook air to display to my tv at all! Nothing works, I've tried unplugging it numerous times, rebooting it while plugged into the TV, everything mentioned in this post...Nope, nothing. I called and it was suggested to reset the System Resource Controller, and try again...We'll see. The rep. said he wasn't aware of any known issues, but judging by these posts - something's up...Stay tuned. -
Mar 3, 2011 8:33 AM in response to Ponponheadby jsnwrd,Oh! I wish I'd read this forum first...
I have a silver Macbook 2.4 running OSX 10.6.6. I had my Macbook connected to my SEG TV using a miniport to VGA but I wanted to be able to use the TV's speakers, which won't work with the VGA connection. Also, the display on the TV is very dark.
So, I hoped that by upgrading to HDMI it might fix both these issues. Instead, with the HDMI connection, it doesn't work at all!
So, I've wasted time and money paying to have an expensive Apple miniport to HDMI adapter mailed from the UK and bought a useless HDMI cable! Come on Apple!
I am getting so fed up with Apple. I had a similar issue with my iPad, which I bought to use for teaching but then I discovered after I bought the expensive cable to connect it to a projector that it won't project everything on the screen but will only project from a few applications and not the one I use as a whiteboard, Pages!
I guess there's hope on the HDMI issue. From these discussions it seems that this is an OS issue, so I guess I will keep the cables in the hope that one day someone from Apple might actually read this forum and fix this problem. However, I notice that this discussion has been running since October 2009 -
Mar 4, 2011 2:34 PM in response to Ponponheadby mario0088,I have the exact same problem most people here have. It's so frustrating that Apple just makes me waste my money like this.
I connect my mini display port to HDMI, then hook it up to a 42'' toshiba LCD. My mac just blinks and then pretends there's nothing going on! -
Mar 5, 2011 10:50 PM in response to Ponponheadby Michael-Mansell,I just got my "http://bit.ly/glBvHx" Kanex v2 adapter and it worked flawlessly. The Moshi Mini display port to hdmi adapter that I had been using with my mid 2010 macbook pro didn't work with my new Macbook pro with the thunder port. I got the "http://bit.ly/glBvHx" Kanex v2 adapter from Amazon and it fixed everything. I have my MBP hooked up to a 24" Dell monitor. I now have it hooked up to my 52" Sony LED TV watching a movie while I'm posting this. -

But does this new Kanex v2 HDMI-adaptor works with your 2010 MacBook Pro as well? -
Mar 12, 2011 4:43 PM in response to ::Kobe::by izzo1701,Well, I called Apple and ended up bringing it in to an authorized 3rd party maint. shop. They ended up having to put a new board into my macbook air to fix this problem. Luckily I was well within my warranty and paid nothing to get it fixed. Thank you Apple for the quality service. -
Mar 12, 2011 7:32 PM in response to izzo1701by egloria,For those of you wondering about whether boot camp makes it happen - yes, it works on the Windows side. I currently have a Moshi adaptor to HDMI, and the Mac side will recognize it for about five seconds, then begin flashing continuously on the external monitor. However, the Windows side operates it perfectly.
Technically, the Mac side should be able to do anything the Windows side can, right? So I'm thinking that replacing adaptors and cords will serve no purpose, since I know that every component in this set up works except for the Mac OS. -
Mar 12, 2011 10:12 PM in response to Ponponheadby DavisJohn,I have a Mac Pro, and I have tried both the Moshi and Kanex mini displayport to HDMI adapters. Neither of them work. I have tried several different HDMI TVs (Sony Bravia, Vizio), and several different HDMI 1.3+ cables. Nothing works. I think the mini displayport has some defects. -
Mar 14, 2011 11:46 AM in response to Ponponheadby jonatanmb11,I got the same problem, but with all the adapters.. When reading this thread i figured that it maybe my laptop not working properly.
I bought an 3 in one adapter on ebay, and it worked fine until updates. The fun thing about my adapter is that i got Apple displayport cabel printed on it, so they cant say it's a cheap fake...
My back is killing me because im sitting like a rat at the office, cant stand it anymore... -
Mar 16, 2011 6:48 PM in response to Ponponheadby jmeddy,I feel really bad for everybody having problems and am posting this in hopes that what is working for me might work for somebody else. If any of this information was already posted, my bad - 12 pages and 2+ years of posts are a lot to read. I know this does not help many of the posters who are having major issues with their output, but maybe this can clear some other things up.
Using a MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2010, which IIRC was the first of that model line to have Sound+Video output from Mini DisplayPort, I have no problems outputting video + sound to various HDTVs (720p and 1080p). I am still using OS X 10.6.5 because I heard rumors of video issues with 10.6.6. The adapter I am using is a Griffin Technology GC17096 that does straight Mini DP to HDMI (and also includes an HDMI to DVI adapter) which is available at Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Technology-GC17096-DisplayPort-Converter/dp/B003CK 8TZ8/ (note: I have no experience with the other Moshi adapter but have heard only mixed reviews about it). To get the audio to also come out of the HDMI (since my model and newer ones have this capability), a quick trip to Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup with everything already plugged in will do. Just right-click on "HDMI" and choose "Use this device for sound output", as well as "Play alerts and sound effects through this device" if desired. Otherwise, just plug your desired adapter into the 1/8" output as it is already a default output for sound and is useful if you want to use this instead of Mini DP/HDMI audio or your machine cannot output audio from Mini DP/HDMI. -
Mar 17, 2011 4:04 AM in response to Ponponheadby Abdelaal,Dear All,

Can i turn the Laptop screen off while connecting the TV?
how to do this on both operating systems?
Thanks & Regards,
