Updating iPod Classic with 1.1.2 software to newer version
I bought a 160gb iPod Classic back in 2007 or 2008. I can't remember which but I know it was in the last quarter of the year; somewhere between Mid-October and the beginning of November. I used it on and off from sheer laziness, so when I picked it up most recently (last weekend) I went to update it and stuff, but it said the newest/most recent software update was on it: 1.1.2. But I've been looking around and apparently iPod Classic's software is 2.0.something.
My question is: Why won't it update to 2.0.whatever and how can I get it to do so?
No, they do not. Sorry. It was speculated that it might be added with a later firmware version, but as noted above 1.1.2 version was the final release, and no update was made that provided support with Genius for the 80 GB and 160 GB 6th generation iPod classic models.
It sounds like you have a 6th generation iPod classic model and according to Apple and several articles out on the web, the Firmware version 1.1.2 was the final Firmware version to be released for that iPod model.
The so called '6th generation iPod Classic' is still buggy and needs a firmware update more than any other model. If Apple will not fix it, they will not be getting any more money for iPods from me ever again (and I am the type who would buy a new one every time they come out with larger capacity...of course that hasn't happened in 2 years either....!)
