The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (1301

I launched iTunes 9.0.1 today and got this error:

"The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (13014)"

An archived tip on the iTunes for Windows forum that suggested deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb. That didn't work, I also had to delete iTunes Library Extras.itdb. (For the record I renamed them instead of deleting, but the original post suggested deleting).

Anyway, I thought I'd pass that on in case anyone else experiences this problem.

Hi
I encounter the same problem,+*it happens not every time*+, when starting iTunes 9.0.2.25.
I tried to delete the iTunes Library Genius db, as suggested. It does not fix the problem.
I`m confused by two points:
this happens not every time (this is not computer like!)
it happens since loading version 9.0.2.25 on one system running vista; it dont happens with the same version on WIN7.
Why is no reaction from apple?

I've got a similar problem. Loaded the iTunes 9.1.1 upgrade this morning and when I booted up the application I got the error 13014.

Restarted my Mac. Launched iTunes. Now it launches, but none of my media is there. It said something about my Library being bad and creating a new one? My preferences point to the correct media folder (on an external drive) but nothing is accessible through iTunes.

Help?

I had the same problem; what I did to fix it was: Double click on the C drive; 1. Open up My Computer. 2. right click on, "Program Files (x86)"

3. in the General tab uncheck the box that say "Read Only (only applies to files in folder)"... it will take a few moments to complete. Click Apply and OK and it fixed mine. BTW I have Windows 7.

I had the same error and I keep my iTune folder on an external drive due to size. I tried to create a sub-folder to temporarirly hold the itdb file(s) and give it a try. The system wouldn't let me create the folder, at which point I remembered I had left my mac on but unplugged to find the battery drained in the morning. Upon plugging it in, it came back but then told me I hadn't exjected my external disk. So, I figured there might be a correlation. I tried to eject the disk and it wouldn't let me though no programs were running. So, I went ahead an chose to "Force" the eject via the option it presented me. On the un/re-plugging the disk, I tried to created a subfolder and it worked. Before moving any files to it, I tried starting iTunes again and voila, it worked. So, I suspect the comment above about files being locked is what bit me. Hope this helps...

I to have this issue, and to make matters worse the .itl file is locked and it says i have unknown permissions or maybe it's access. . and now when I renamed the iTunes geaneus file back it says now when I open iTunes The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50). Running iTunes 11 here and this happened today.I think I know the culprit but am not sure yet. It might be my live drive set to real time not a scheduled scan. I will try changing those pref and let you all know what's up. In my case it might be a simple error on my part, I hope.
