Connecting a MacBook Pro to a standard TV. Not LCD/HD/whatever.

What the subject says. Basically I'm wondering if I can use a cord such as this.

Standard DVI on my MacBook Pro, not mini or micro...and only standard TVs in our home. Although our DVD players have component video ports, our TVs only have the standard RCA ones. Not sure if I used the cord above if it'd output fine from the DVD player to the TV.

I'm probably making this out to be a whole lot more confusing than it should be. I just really want a cord that can connect from my MacBook Pro's DVI port to my TV's RCA ports[yellow, red, white].

Any simple help would be appreciated. I'm sure getting a spiffy new TV would be better..but oh well~

MacBook Pro (Late 2006 model), Mac OS X (10.6.1), 15" matte LCD, 120GB Serial ATA, 5400-rpm, 2.33GHz (T7600) Intel Core 2 Duo Merom, 3GB of RAM

The first cord you have there is a DVI to Component and not the red white yellow you want for an RCA TV Input -

Use something like this for the video (yellow) cable:

Then use a small stereo phono jack for the audio out (headphone socket) to the red and white (audio left/right) on the TV - something like this:

Yeah, that's what the guy in Next Byte told me today too. Thanks for the info. 😀

Turns out I already have the latter cable, so I just need to buy the Apple PAL DVI to Video Adapter and an S-video to S-video cable. Seems my TV has that, and from people's comments it appears that S-video may be just a tiny bit better. I have the cables to do it either way, so I'm set. Appreciate the help!
