Changing the default WIKI Server name

You can edit the index.html inside /Library/Webserver/Documents
Just make sure you make a duplicate of it in case you need to go back.

I opened that page and it doesnt appear to be the page you see when you go to my groups webpage

Did you ever figure this out, I've been editing the page in our Podcast server, but I can't seem to find the CSS files. I need'em to get rid of that damm MacOS Server Banner.

The files related to the default Groups page (index.html and the CSS files) are in the /usr/shared/collaboration directory. It's hidden, so you'll have to Terminal the file to somewhere you can open, edit, save and then move back.

Yep, I found it by looking at the server admin tools and then peeking at the hidden files.

Yes, I needed to get there for the CSS files it contains. I just used the ditto command in Terminal to copy them to a visible folder so I could get at them.

I've had good success with changing items such as the banner by:
- Change banner.jpg in usr/share/collaboration/css/serverhome/img to your banner image as a jpg file. Remember to verify
Permissions set to Owner: root -rw, Group: wheel -r, Others: -r.

I just tried this, but it's not working.

I changed the name of the banner.jpg to banner_old.jpg

I moved my new banner.jpg into the same directory - it lists, it's in there, spelling is correct. It's not showing up on my web page, though. What gives?

I didn't ditto, I just mv from a network share to usr/share/collaboration/css/serverhome/img

What else do I need to do?

How do I verify permissions? Who's Owner?

I found the answers to my own questions:

verify permissions with ls -l [filename]

change permissions so it's group and world viewable with chmod 644 [filename]

Actually, you are. In order to see these files you have to have root access. I don't necessarily recommend giving yourself root access unless you have some experience with it. It's not difficult, but it can be very damaging if you perform the wrong function.

Basically, open a Terminal window and type sudo bash

That will turn your Mac Terminal window into a Unix-style Bash terminal.

From there, CD into the directory listed above, and use vi to edit the file.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, read up about bash and vi commands, how to use terminal, backing up files via vi and bash, and basic knowledge of Unix in general.

I am familiar with bash, and I have been looking using root access. Below is the output of ls:

try the path:
{drive_name}/library/webserver/documents/

That's where my main "home-page" index.html resides.

the share/collaboration/ path is for the wiki, specifically, and falls into a different category. I needed access to the usr/share/collaboration/css/serverhome/img/banner.jpg

I don't know why the .css for the home page resides in a very different directory than the main index.html page for the server home page, but it does.
