New Version of Quicktime installed. Can't install iTunes 9.01

I am trying to install the new version of iTunes but its telling me I already have the newest version of quicktime and can not install itunes. Can I just install itunes without quicktime?

HP Pavilion a320n, Windows XP, 512mb AMD Athalon
