Should I shut down my iPhone every night? Sleep vs shut-down.

Hi, If I never use my phone during the night, should I shut it right down every night? How much energy is used when the iPhone "sleeps" for 8 hours?
Thanks for your thoughts on this!

It uses more power in sleep than it does when off, but why don't you just plug it in overnight so it is fully charged in the morning?

Unless you have a lot of stuff being pushed to the phone, it only uses a tiny bit of juice to maintain it in sleep mode.

if you leave it sleep mode you ca still get calls and use things like the alarm - if you shut it off - its off and nothing will work

of course it depends on what you want - i rely on the alarm so i leave my phone on and in the charger at night

It's a smart charger; shuts down if the battery is fully charged. So the power used is minuscule after the battery reaches full charge. I almost suggested using a timer to turn on the charger a couple of hours before you get up, but the timer would probably use more power than the Apple adapter.

When it is OFF it is totally OFF. No text messages are received until you turn it on and calls are sent to voicemail.

I know that this question is Answered - but my two cents: I sometimes don't leave it for charging when I go to bed at night (reading books on iphone in bed and then too lazy to plug it back in the charger) but I have not seen the battery % drop more than 2-3 % counts.

My battery will loose about 10% (polling email every hour, and push IM left on) over 7.5 hours.

You can leave it on and I think Apple intend people do, because otherwise alarms will not go off, I use the alarms to wake me up 🙂 The best option is to leave it on and plugged in.

Sounds like I may not be getting enough sleep then 😉

Jokes apart, I do not leave the IM Push on; just leave the email to be pulled each hour on my home wi-fi. - so that could be helping me save the power over ManicMarc.
