Bluetooth mouse won't pair

I'll second what 'charles117' said....

-Install xCode tools from the SL disc then find 'Bluetooth explorer'.
-Go to 'devices' then 'show device directory' and make sure that your Apple wireless mouse is turned on and the light underneath is flashing.
-It should show up in the list.
-All I did was click on the mouse (in the list) then 'get device info'.
-I clicked on 'paired' and 'connected' at the bottom of the window and voila it worked!

Just to double check I then opened bluetooth prefs just to make sure it was in the list and it was. So far it's still working, if it quits on me I'll be back!!

HI,

First, go to MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences.

Move this file to the Trash. com.apple.Bluetooth.plist

and restart your Mac.

If that doesn't help, open System Preferences/Bluetooth. Delete the mouse from the Device list and try re "pairing" it.

This is not a Keychain issue. That's for usernames and passwords.

I get the same problem pairing with my MS bluetooth mouse. My Macbook pro discovers the mouse, then says connecting to Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000, Then says "The pairing attempt was unsuccessful" Have tried the different passcode options but no success.

I also have problems connecting to my iPhone 3G for tethering.

Both were working fine before update to Snow Leopard.

I have deleted com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and restarted.

I just got this mouse today, and I had the same problem. But, I was able to connect it.
Make sure to do the Bluetooth setup even though the pairing fails.
After it fails, follow this steps:
1. Go to Bluetooth Explorer (just go to spotlight and type Bluetooth Explorer).
2. Go to Device ---> Show Device History ---> Select Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 ---> Get Device Info...
3. Put the mouse into pairing mode.
4. After that click Connected and wait for a few seconds and move the mouse around.
5. Then click Favorite
6. if you installed Intellipoint, you can customize your mouse.

The mouse is laggy, but you can fix it in the mouse settings. Still, it is little bit laggy.

yep, same thing happened with me with my iPhone AFTER i paid the 30.00 to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Apple is supposed to make these things easy, i'm EXTREMELY frustrated I have to install a large package of s/w (developer tools) that i wil never use so i can restore a function i once enjoyed under 10.5. i fought with the cell company for 45 minutes to have them charge me additional money just for the privilege of tethering my phone, it worked before i upgraded, then the one day i take the laptop to school, the wifi doesnt work, i try to use MY OWN internet, only to find out that bluetooth has been crippled. Apple is supposed to make things dependable. Not pleased with this one, Apple.

I bought a magic mouse yesterday and i couldnt pair it with my mac. Upon a little trial and error i found out the following.

a) Trying to search for "Mouse" when adding a bluetooth device doesnt work. You have to search for "Other Devices" and it will find your mouse(magic mouse in my case).
b)You have to install a mouse preferences software from apple to be able to set the preferences for your mouse.

The above worked for me. But initially i was frustrated as trying to scan for a bluetooth mouse never found my magic mouse.

I am running Snow Leopard with all the updates.

Ok I have a MS Mouse 8000 too and I use 10.6.2 Snow Leopard. How in the WORLD are you people finding the option to choose "Other device" or "Any Device" on your bluetooth setup assistant? All the options I get are a window that auto searches for devices and a address specific option. None of these mouse,keyboard,phone,other bullet point things. ***? Where is it hiding?

I couldn't fine Bluetooth Explorer at first - it is part of the Xcode developer tools which I hadn't installed.
