ProRes Codecs are missing

Hi,

I have just switched to Snow Leo after Leopard. After a clean install I have installed my FCS3 upgrade suit as well.

The installation seemed successful – however in the Easy Setup there are no ProRes codecs except one (HDV-Apple ProRes 422 1080p24). No 422 HQ, 422, LT or Proxy at all...

(Before SL, on my old 10.5.8 and upgrading the FCS2 with 3 all codecs were there...)

Where are they?

Many thanks for your advices,
best,
Gyula

Hi Gyula

I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and FCP 7, however I didn't do it the proper way. I simply installed both as an upgrade, versus accomplishing a clean install. Oh well, I simply didn't have the time to go through all of that.

Anyway, my original Easy Settings containing my custom settings were carried on over into the new install and I haven't had any problems capturing ProRes 422 via firewire as I have always done in the past (with one exception, which is discussion in detail in another thread).

I've been doing some research on this topic though and even though Easy Settings for Capturing in ProRes don't appear in the easy setups, I believe you have to create them yourself (pretty much like it was (or is) in FCP6. Here are a couple links that may help, I hope so.

I've probably just violated some rule that says I can't give you a link to another site, but I'm not as smart as some of the other guys that's been around here longer so I have to rely on other sites.

Of course you haven't -so long as the link is relevant to the discussion at hand, does not link to direct downloads or point to a site that contains adult or possibly objectionable content.

If the site is owned by you or you could receive some form of material benefit by linking it, then you should include a disclaimer to that effect in your post. See the "Help and Terms of Use" link above the list of Top Users for further information.

Sorry ShizzleD, not sure how I can help you. According to this article I read over at Creative Cow, you won't see the ProRes Easy Setups with the exception of the HDV which is what your seeing I suppose. I am capturing ProRes 422 in FCP 7 via firewire from a small Canon HV20, although I do have a Black Magic Intensity Pro Card installed in my MacPro, but I only use it for monitoring my video output on my external Samsung LCD while editing, I don't capture through it. Still the only Easy setup's that I see is the custom one I created using the procedures in those articles which I posted above. Look at this post and see if it leads you in the right direction.

I Suppose you have to have a capture card to see any easy settings for ProRes, Im just not sure in your case. Maybe one of these veterans will give you some solid advice. You have to be really nice to them though and swear you'll name your first born after them.

Yes, this my understanding as well. I trashed prefs, no results.

I can play prores files in Quicktime X without problems. In fact, using the media manager I can recompress exisiting footage to any Prores. So, the codecs are there somewhere, they are missing only from the Easy Setup.

When I installed my Kona LHe card, all Kona Prores Easy Setups were shown up.

However, when I upgraded my FCP6 to FCP7 - (without cleans install), all the new ProRes (and old) Easy Setups were there, that's way I find it quite strange that after a clean install they are not there.

And, as Videocrafter mentioned, I can create them as custom Easy Setups...

Anyhow, the work can go on,

thanks guys for your suggestions, links (I was monitoring CreativeCow as well), I really aprreciated your help,

Well, I guess clean installs don't always have their advantages do they? LOL Glad it worked out for ay Gulua.

I have this problem too on Final Cut Pro 7. I can't see any ProRes items in the Easy Setups menu but if I go to Sequence Settings > Load Sequence Preset, I'm presented with a whole list of ProRes options.

I would speculate that Final Cut Pro is disabling the ProRes Easy Setups because I do not have the necessary hardware to capture in ProRes on this machine. Perhaps it only enables it if you have a capture card.

That's what I don't fully understand. One can capture to ProRes via firewire, Therefore any special capture card is not required. Therefore, why would (is) Final Cut 7 doing this? I have the Black Magic Intensity Pro Card, but I don't use it to capture, only for output. Does that mean if I didn't have a Black Magic card installed I wouldn't be able to capture via firewire? What I assume it actually means is that pre-established Easy Setups would not be displayed without the installed card, and I would simply need to configure them manually at the links I provided earlier explain. Am I correct in this assumption?
