Mystery photos appear on my camera roll

Two stock-looking photos appeared on my Camera Roll. One of a rock in the water and the other of some fungus on a tree. They didn't look like snapshots taken from the iphone. I checked all the apps that I've downloaded to see if they stuck any kind of wallpaper on anything on the iphone and none do. I then did a reverse image search on tineye.com (post the image and it finds instances on the web) and it pointed me to an apparently teenaged blogger's site that claims they are his/her photos. How could this happen? I've never visited that site before.

iphone 3gs, iPhone OS 3.0.1

They don't and never do. If its a concern, I would raise an issue with the feedback forms of the main website.

I am however watching mine with interest to see if they appear here !

Those *very same two photos* appeared on my iPhone last night - January 29, 2010. And I see that this has happened to others as well - _the very same two photos_: http://tinyurl.com/yef2q8f. This rules out theories that someone else used the phone, or that I accidentally saved the photos from a web page. The photos are being placed in the camera roll by a process, an event, or an app.

Are these photos part of a hidden easter egg in the iPhone meant to signify something? Is a new or updated app doing it? I'd be happy to compare the list of apps on my phone with anyone else who has had this happen.

Someone has the answer to this. Please, what is it?

And because I'm new here and simply don't know: do Apple tech support employees read these messages and reply to them?

This is a user forum. You are NOT addressing Apple here. If you want an answer from Apple, then you are in the wrong place.

Quite odd that many people are getting the same pics. This is one solution reported in another forum... http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=771029&page=2

"Found the issue... And, yes I'm sure maybe of you already figured it was a user error. This photo was sent to me via email in a series and I somehow must have saved it locally."

I haven't revisited this thread in a long while, but as the OP, I think I've figured it out - if you've ever installed the Benjamin Moore ColorCapture app, I'm pretty sure it installed those two same photos. They are colorful.

Get any "spam" email that might have had the pic as an attachment & you inadvertently saved it?

Well, there are only four ways to get pics in your camera roll, 1.Take a pic, 2. Save a pic from Safari, 3. Save a pic emailed to you, or 4. Save a pic from a MMS.
