Yahoo Messenger + Snow Leopard = iSight shows I am now a green blob.

So yahoo messenger does not like snow leopard or me apparently. Every time I try to use the webcam I get an image that is nothing but a bright green square. I have tried uninstall - reinstall, I have cleared plist and cache files, I have made a new user account and tried it there, same thing. I have used the camera in photo booth as well as ichat and it works perfectly fine.

What is happening!?

I don't know if maybe this version isn't compatible with snow leopard but yahoo support did not tell me otherwise.

Please help me out! Driving me crazy.

By green blob I mean:

I just got finished with an archive and install, same issue is happening.

It can't be my camera because the camera works fine everywhere else...I even have windows 7 installed on here and downloaded yahoo messenger and the camera works perfect on the bootcamp partition.

Ahhhhh.

(1) First, check your iSight using Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090

If iSight works in every user account you try with all apps except YMM, your problem is NOT with iSight or SL. One of the following will be your best bet unless you get the help you need here.

(2) This YMM Help page says that the latest 3.0 BETA works with your Mac OS X (10.6.1):

http://messenger.yahoo.com/

If you are not already using that, follow Yahoo's instructions for updating to the current version.

(3) If you still have problems and cannot find the solution you need via Yahoo's Help site,

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/

search or post your Yahoo specific topics in the appropriate Yahoo-dedicated user forum:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/answers/answers-01.html

The YMM users who post there may have already found the solution to your problem.

After trying all the suggestions, nothing worked so I went back to my troubleshooting steps and was able get it to work for me.

I went into my /Library/Quicktime folder and removed everything except the two codecs required by iMovie (AppleIntermediateCodec and AppleMPEG2Codec). You have to restart since they are system level codecs.

After a restart, I went straight to Yahoo Messenger and it started right up. Webcam works fine as well.

I do a lot of video work so I had to pull 12 codecs out of the Quicktime folder, so I will have to test them one at a time putting them back to see which was the culprit.

Either way, Yahoo Messenger is working like a charm now. I hope this proves useful for someone.
