Trash Can is SIlent When Emptied

This is minor, I know, but my Trash Can no longer makes its characteristic sound when emptied. How do I restore the sound to the empty trash operation?

Hi. Thx for the advice. The "play user interface sound effects" box was/is checked but still no trash can sound. I can't recall what other system sounds there are so I don't know of this is specific for the the trash.

Are there apps known to interfere with system sounds? I'm thinking specifically of iMovie.

Hi,
Go to system preferences / sound / and check the "play user interface sound effects"

If a simple restart of your computer does not bring back the trash sound, try booting from your install disc & run *Repair Disk* from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.

Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.

Repair permissions after you reach the desktop- http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
