MacBook does not recognize HP C4385 scanner . . .

. . . my scanner previously worked and the error message I get is that the scanner cannot be initialized. I have a MacBook, OS 10.5 and HP C4385 All-In-One. I have rebooted computer, uninstalled the HP software, reinstalled 9.7.1 and shut off the HP Driver update of 1.1.1. But it still does not work. I have tried image capture and the scanner is listed but does not get recognized.

I have a wireless network and can print just fine.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

Hey there, I had the same problem and just figured out a fix.

Go to System Preferences, and select Print & Fax. You may need to delete the wireless printer from the left pane, and then re-add. With it highlighted, select "Scan" at the top of the right pane instead of "Print". This is where you can change your scanner settings. It doesn't seem to matter whether sharing is enabled for me.

The key thing is, you need to launch the scanner from here, by clicking on "Open Scanner". Works fine. However running "HP Scan Pro" does not work.

I can't seem to change the scan area, but at least it works. Hope that helps.
