We recently recorded a 30 minute talk for a podcast in Garageband and for some reason when I go to edit it, the track begins before the visual for it does. Now the audio is out of sync from the visual waveform and when I try to edit the track, everything is off by about 3 seconds. How can I get this back into sync, or has Garageband been as thoroughly broken as iMovie at this point?

I've tried exporting to iTunes and re-importing, now I'm trying exporting to Disk, up next I guess I'll try importing to a new file. If this has happened to anyone else, did something work? Thanks.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

I am experiencing the same problem. Waveform and audio are out of sync by about 2-3 seconds.

If anyone has an idea of how to fix this, I'd be grateful.

Same Here! I recorded a 32 minute podcast using GarageBand '09 on my MacBook Pro 2.4ghz w/4gb DDR667 and while editing the playhead is off 2-3 seconds from the visual waveforms. Almost impossible to edit this way =-(

It makes me sad when a simple thing can't be performed using an Apple product on an Apple product.

Yeah I'm getting this problem as well. Anyone resolved it yet?

Have you tried deleting the garageband preferences file? It's in home folder>Library>Preferences and it's called com.apple.garageband.plist.

    Deleting the prefs worked! Thanks!

I use GB for recording songwriting ideas, and I just had this same problem for the first time. Oddly, it only seems to affect Apple loops; my self-recorded audio is still sync'd properly.

I can't find any info about some sort of delay compensation for GB's audio, either, so I'm very puzzled. And annoyed.

Deleting the Prefs did nothing on my end- I'm suffering from this problem intermittently. Weeks or months will go by with no problems, then suddenly I have to scrap hours of podcast editing and start over. >.<

If deleting the Prefs doesn't solve the issue, am I basically screwed?

I've been having this exact same issue as well. I'm recording a multi-track, 120 minute podcast and the audio tends to get off by 2-3 seconds.

Deleting the prefs file didn't help.

Really would appreciate some more guidance on this.

I am having the same problem. The audio plays 2-3 sec earlier then the waveform.

Deleting the preference file did nothing.

With no visual representation Garageband is pretty useless, but this might be a good point to start with Logic Express. Its annoying though, because Garageband does everything i need for what i am doing.

This was killing me when I was trying to mix some bizarre electronica, but here is a fix:

Set your in and out points for the project with the yellow bar.

Isolate each track one by one and export uncompressed.

Start a new project, drag all your exported AIFFS into it, and presto, new waveforms will be drawn and you can mix from there.

    KAPOW!
