Sony Ebook Library software on Mac OS X 10.4

Hello,

I have a Sony Reader Touch (PRS-600) that I am trying to use with my Mac which is running Tiger (10.4.11) but am having no luck. Sony's customer service people have been unable to help me for over 1 month so I am asking here to see if anyone has the same problem or might know how to fix this problem.

Once I install the Sony Ebook Library software and connect my reader by usb cable the reader is not recognized by the software. It says "Error" in the list of things connected to the library software when it should instead say "Reader."

I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times. I have changed the format in the International settings. I have contacted the Sony customer service but they are clueless and their lab is "working on it" or has been for 1 month.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for the help. I have done the system update previously but it did not help the problem. That system update that is available is also not related to the problem I have. All it does is fix a problem where the reader does not read memory cards.

My problem is that the Sony software does not recognize the Reader as being connected to it, just saying Error instead.

I can get it to work by uninstalling and deleting all files related to the Sony software but it only works until I disconnect and reconnect again, then the software no longer recognizes the Reader.

Thanks for the ideas though.

This is the solution, I can confirm it ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Reader) :

"Mac OS X
Sony released an official Mac OS X client for the Reader with the release of the PRS-300 and PRS-600. It is reported to work with the PRS-505, PRS-700, Reader Pocket Edition and Reader Touch Edition. *The software works under 10.6 Snow Leopard, but only under 32 bit mode as it relies on a kernel module that does not currently support the optional 64 bit kernel.*"
