I am not able to use the Digital Cinema preview anymore. I have clicked mirror on desktop on and off. Restarted and trashed prefs. Of course I have mad sure that it is f12 ALL FRAMES instead of single frames. It shows one frame and sticks with that frame. So annoying. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard which caused all sorts of issues so i reinstalled FCS. So annoying. Any other tips. I have Final Cut 6.whatever. Not 7.
I too am having this problem. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this? Or how to set up FCP correctly so as to avoid it? I am new to FCP but have followed the Help and Manual carefully. But to no avail. Since I get the display (with a frozen frame, which updated every time playback is paused), I think I have the secondary display connected correctly. I am careful to use cmd-f12 or the menu item "all frames" (tried both over and over), but the behavior doesn't change. The canvas shows exactly the same behavior (frozen frame) as the secondary display. The canvas resumes, playing correctly, as soon as cmd-f12 is pressed or "all frames" is unchecked. Problem appears exactly the same regardless of which Cinema Desktop option is used (Main, Raw, etc.).
Help, instruction, or at least a pointer in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
Make sure your Canvas window is not zoomed in ... select the Canvas and press Shift-Z (Fit to Window)
Make sure you do not have windows overlapping the Canvas, or partially off screen ... press Ctrl-U (Standard Layout)
Thanks for your very prompt reply. I did as you suggested but the behavior is unchanged; still can't get other than a single frame display, updated whenever playback is paused.
If you have a small enough test clip then go ahead and drop one in my iDisk public folder (member name : andymees) ... I'l take a look and see if it will playback in DCDP on my laptop.
Sorry this took so long, but I have been out of town. I could supply an HDV clip but I don't think it will help. I have since verified that the problem exists, with exactly the same behavior, with other formats. An example is a clip rendered for Apple TV (.m4v). I will try more formats if you think it would be useful.
By the way the latest updates to OS X and FCP have not altered this behavior.
Hey i recently got a new imac, upgraded from MBP, and when i installed the FCP 6 software i found that desktop preview or as i call it full screen no longer worked. I'm having the same problem where its just a still frozen image and the sound rolls. anyone get anywhere on this? is apple working on it? i needs it to work, it is very frustrating.
I was having the same problem with FCP 7.02 running Mac OS 10.6.2 on MacBook Pro 15 2.66 Core 2 Duo. Found this page
http://dvcreators.net/discuss/showthread.php?t=26820. The very helpful user Swede suggested "Filled in the checkbox "Mirror on desktop" under Audio/Video Settings - A/V devices"
I checked "Mirror on desktop" and now it works just fine. My External Video is set to Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Main"
