iTunes cannot connect to iPod touch. Unkown error

Hi
My girlfriend just got new iPod touch 32GB. The problem is when she tries to connect to her pc (Win XP, iTunes 9), iTunes shows an error message saying "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred 0x8000065".

First of all, why does it says "iPhone"?
Secondly what could be the issue? I advised her to remove the iPod, close the iTunes, restart the PC and than connect it again, but it shows the same problem.

Any solutions please?

Thanks
Mehul

Thanks. I did check these, and these services are there. But I am still stucked with iPod screen showing "a USB plug and iTunes icon". already done following things....

1. Stopped and restarted Apple Mobile device service
2. Removed iTunes 9 and re-installed it.
3. Restarted iPod touch by pressing sleep/awake and home button. But still the screen "USB plug and iTunes icon" would't go off.

Its so disappointing..There's no excitmenet for the new toy now 😟

Please help.

The iPod is indicating that it needs to be restored - it is not going to work until it syncs with iTunes.

I think you need to go one step further with iTunes:
- using the control panel, remove iTunes, QuickTime, and Apple Mobile Device Services
- restart the PC
- Download and install the latest iTunes
- plug the iPod in and let iTunes restore it

If there are still errors when you connect the iPod, you need to see where there could be a USB device conflict. I would unplug all usb devices, restart the computer, and then plug the iPod back in. If that works, then plug in devices one at a time until you get a failure. Update the drivers for the offending device and you should be fine.

Hi
Will try this un-install again. But will not uninstalling iTunes, automatically remove Quicktime, Apple Mobile device service?

But could you please tell me,why my iPod keeps showing "USB connector and iTunes icon" image all the time, even if it is not connected to PC.

Thanks,
Mehul

Uninstalling iTunes does not remove the other software. You need to remove all three pieces. However, when you re-instal iTunes, it will install all of those pieces.

Your iPod is telling you that it needs to be plugged into iTunes and restored. It will continue to display this until it is restored.

Ok... Uninstalling iTunes 9, Quick time and Apple Mobile Device service does not help either. Again after reinstalling iTunes 9, when I connect iPod touch, it is showing the same msg, "iTunes cannot to iPhone because an unknown error occured 0x8000065".

I have also tried removing all other USB devices.
Tried all the USB ports on my PC and it still does not work.

But just a note here to all, I don't think that USB ports have problem, as I tried to connect my iPod classic 120 GB, and it connected just fine without any problems.

Any more ideas or solutions please.

Thanks,
Mehul

Hi...
Even this didn't worked. After step 6, I do get the apple logo on iPod and after that connect to iTunes image. But nothing comes up in iTunes on my PC. It still doesn't recognize my iPod touch.

Where else can there be problem? Will my antivirus software can be the culprit? But I can easily sync my iPod classic 120 GB, so I don't think antivirus should be a problem.

Any clues please... I have lost all the excitement for a new iPod tocuh 😟 😟 😟

Thanks
Mehul

Hi
I went to an Apple store and know what? It just synced there fine. I asked the person why it didn't happened at my home PC, where I have done exactly the same thing which they did. To which he replied that there might be some problem with your PC (some software conflict :-(). I need to figure out now what could that be, as I am able to sync iPod classic but not touch.

Thanks,
Mehul
