Disk/Partition is full on NFS share: but it isn't full

Several users have been recording to an NFS share called "working" successfully for several months. Just today, they are now reporting an error coming from Logic Pro. It says:

Drive/partition "working" is full.

The volume is most certainly not full. The volume contains 1.5TB of data, with about 7TB available. It is obviously a problem inside of Logic because we are able to write data to the volume outside of Logic. Can anyone provide a solution?

While I can't address anything on this now, we use NFS at work with VMWare on Netapp filers, so I'm going to forward this to my work account then have a look in some spare time tomorrow.

The one thing I can say is that for what we do (At work) we were advised not to use large volumes and to split things in to smaller volumes.

I know my Macbook Pro can access the volumes without too much trouble and that with a 500GB de-duplicated volume (Supposedly holding around 650GB data), the MacBook handles reading and writing to the volume just fine.

So, a few questions. What is the NFS volume sat on, is this a NAS device and if so which one (Netapp, eqallogic, Linux server acting as a file store)?

How many systems are accessing the volume?

Logic at its heart is still pretty much a 32 bit application and probably expecting to access a HFS or HFS+ formatted volume. Anyone know the maximum size for one of these?

Well, I've had a look at a few things and the only 'Common issue' was to do with older ethernet cards that could not handle high capacity workloads. As 1.5TB has been recorded I don't think that is the issue.

So, this leaves at least 3 possible causes, a limitation in OS X redarding accessing more than 1.5TB over the LAN (Unlikely), a limitation in Logic accessing more than 1.5TB over a LAN or a limitation in the number of files accessible within a folder.

One thing I've seen on the Netapps is a stated maximum number of files for a volume AND for directories. If one of these limits are reached, no additional writes can be made to that particular folder/volume (Depending on which limit has been reached first).

Couple of things to note:

1. We're having the issue with a new clean project. Can't record the audio through Logic.
2. We are able to read/write to the project directory and the Audio Files directory from outside of Logic from the same workstation. So, this doesn't seem like a server-side or operating system issue. It seems like something with Logic.

Still looking for a definitive answer. Doing some more tests today.

I dont follow all the technical side you guys are talking about but this may help:

I had exactly the same problem: ie Logic reporting that the my main Hard Drive was full. Although it was quite full it as not that full... that it should not be able to record.

A very expert mate came in and did some basic Mac maintenance (Disk Warrior etc) but he also did two things which COMPLETELY transformed the speed and efficiency of my whole system and massively reduced the excess baggage on my main HD

• He checked for inadvertently doubled fonts... of which there were several. They have a black dot next to them if they are duplicated and you need to delete them. This made the computer boot up very much quicker than before

• He used an Application called WhatSize ( http://www.id-design.com/software/whatsize/)
which looks in detail at the hard drive and lo and behold he discovered a 77Gb partially completed but failed Super Duper back up which was hidden somewhere where I never expected.

* * *

Once all this extra stuff was deleted plus the basic maintenance. Logic 8 and the whole machine has been performing a 100% better

In other words... with great respect to your technical knowledge, the solution could be in a completely different area to where you are all discussing
