Itunes + LAME encoder trouble

I was having trouble importing MP3s (and playing the same MP3s on itunes) into iTunes recently. I thought that the files might be corrupted so I used EncSpot 2 to check (changing the scan setting to 0: check all frames). The songs play fine om WMP and VLC. The files where not corrupt. The songs EncSpot identified as encoded by lame and Thomson mp3PRO would not play. Im using iTunes 9.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I am pretty sure I have imported these songs into iTunes at sometime. I also tried downgrading to 8.2 and this did not solve the problem. As a temp fix im re encoding the music.

LAME-encoded MP3s play fine in iTunes; in fact most songs from online music retailers other than the iTunes Store (Amazon, etc.) are LAME-encoded MP3s.

Since they play fine in other players, most likely you are encountering the problem of iTunes being strict/finicky/incompetent (pick your own interpretation) about slight variations in MP3 headers. Treat the files with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3 Validator.

As for MP3Pro, forget it.
