missing N function

I'm pretty much a newbie to spreadsheets.
A friend sent me a spreadsheet which contained the following formula - =IF(N(K12),L13/K12,0)
Numbers unfortunately marks this as invalid.
Could anyone suggest a replacement formula that will produce the same result in Numbers?
Thanks for any help

R,

Numbers doesn't support the N function, and what you might do about it depends on what type of data is in K12 and L13. While the expression "=IF(N(K12),L13/K12,0)" may have produced an acceptable result in Excel, "N(K12)" doesn't make much sense as the comparison argument in an IF statement, and therefore I don't think much of the technique. I would change the expression just for clarity if for no other reason.

Close but not exact. If B is an error (such as "numbers cannot be divided by zero") the N function will return the same error. The IF statement will return "B2 is an error", not "numbers cannot be divided by zero". I doubt anyone really wants to go that far anyway. Depending on what is in the OP's cell K12, N may not be required at all or may just require the completion of the condition statement. I'm with Jerry on the opinion that N(K12) is not a proper condition, it is not a TRUE or FALSE.
