When I first created my iTunes account, I used the email address I had at the time.

Since then, I've become a Mobile Me user.

Now I would like to use my Mobile Me address as my Apple ID for iTunes.
My new Mobile Me address is also my new Apple ID, just not for iTunes.

However, it appears that iTunes won't allow me to change it to an existing Apple ID.

Does anyone know if there is a way that I can accomplish this change?

    No, I'm afraid that site does not help.

    It states you cannot change your Apple ID, only create a new one.

    So, I actually have a new one.

    New One: Mobile Me
    Old One: iTunes

    I want to use my new one for iTunes.

    When I try to change my ID on iTunes, I get the same message. "Log out and log back in with your new ID."

    My concern is, all the music I have bought over the years is under my old ID. So I'm concerned that if I log in with my new ID I will loose all that music.

    I just talked with Apple and I believe I now understand the issue.

    Here's how it was explained to me:

    Let's say you just bought your first Apple computer. Setting it up, you create your Apple ID.
    Then, you launch iTunes and use that very same Apple ID to set up your account on iTunes so you can purchase content. No issues, that will work just fine.

    However, if you then go to the Apple on line store, you cannot use that very same Apple ID. It's already in use over at the iTunes store. I was told that the iTunes store and the Apple on line store are separate stores and need separate Apple ID's.

    I would have to agree with this explanation, since I cannot change one to be the same as the other.

    I cannot change my iTunes ID to be my Apple ID. The error message I get says that the new ID I'm trying to use is already in use. (it's my Apple ID, which I use on the Apple on line store) I've tried changing both my iTunes ID to my Apple ID and I tried to change my Apple ID to my iTunes ID and each time I get the same error message. "That ID is already in use"

    I can change either ID to be any new non-existing ID. But I cannot change either one to an existing ID, even if both of the ID's belong to me.

    I was hoping to use a single Apple ID, but it appears you cannot.

    (just thought I should post this answer for anyone else who might run into this issue)

    Thank you for posting this! I've been looking and looking for an answer as I'm in exactly the same situation.
