DVD Drive Tray Opens When G5 Powered

Once G5 has powered up, DVD tray opens. Pushing it in or using media eject key causes tray to stay in 10-20 seconds before opening again. Tray closes when G5 powers down. Any CD or DVD inserted in drive will not be mounted. DVD tray will open without mounting CD or DVD.

Trouble began after recent security update but may just be coincidence.

PowerPC G5, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Resetting the PRAM has no effect.

Well, unless somebody else has a better idea, which they might, I don't now what else to suggest except replacing the drive. It is a fairly easy job and the drive themselves are not very expensive.

I replaced the drive with a Pioneer DVR 118L. The drive replacement eliminated the problem.
