DVD Player initialization error -70017

Hi !

I have the same problem ! Although even by resetting the pram , doesn't help me ! This is absolutely not normal. Does anyone find a solution ? My mac mini is only three weeks old.

I had the same problem with my dvd player on my mac mini. I followed the instructions at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2020977, i.e. I used the disk utility to restore file permissions and - after a restart - it solved the problem.

Got myself a mac mini latest version for home media - get same error message as above on DVD player - this also seems to affect Front Row as I cannot play video on Front Row.
Tried the permissions and reboot however that only fixes the problem temporarily. Tried to find the thread mentioned above but clicking on the link fails to find it.
Hesitant to try the parameters solution mentioned previously, unless nothing else works. During the permissions rebuild one of the messages back says one permission not reset and its a core one....too long for any more detail I am afraid.

I recently had this issue on my PowerMac G5 DC-2.3GHz. Tried a lot of fixes, but had ultimate success by reinstalling the drivers to my graphics card (ATI Radeon x1900).

I had noticed that the OpenGL screensaver 'flurry' was running choppy so I figured I would reinstall video drivers anyway, and it fixed my DVD playback problem as well.

Update to above:

This also has apparently fixed an issue the computer was having with running the fans faster than normal. I had noticed that all the fans seemed to be running slightly faster at low loads and couldn't figure out what was wrong. After reinstalling the ATI x1900 driver and ATI Display package and restarting, the fans went back to normal and have remained fine. Uptime has been ~12 hours since the restart and things are functioning as they should.
