This is happening on Snow Leopard with Logic 9.01 and is reproducible every time. I record a bunch of tracks in a session, save and next time I open the project, it goes through the "creating overview" process drawing all the waveforms recorded in the last session, can take a few minutes if a lot of tracks were recorded. If I then save it again, and open again without recording anything new, it opens without "creating overview", anything new that gets recorded will get the "creating overview" treatment next time I open the project. Is anyone else experiencing this? and if so, is there a solution? It's driving me nuts, and if I were ever brave/insane enough to use Logic 9 in a commercial enviroment, it would be very embarrassing for clients to have to sit through that.

I have the same problem here since I upgradeed to logic 9 (9.0.2)
I recorded some sessions with 4-8 tracks for about 2-3 hours with 24bit/48khz and it is totally annoyinng and very time consuming that logic recalculates these overviews over and over and over again if I reopen the project.
Really really bad. Especially as this bug should be really easy to fix...
Just wanted to add it happens here too... only since Logic 9, no earlier versions did this.
I'm on Leopard 10.5.8. Logic 9.02
From what I can gather, new overviews are drawn from the last recording session. Not all audio waveforms are redrawn, just the last ones recorded prior to re-opening the song. And then those audio files no longer have to go through that process from that point on.
Does that seem consistent with what everyone here is experiencing?
this is driving me nuts as well. i am in 10.6.2 and logic 9.0.2 and there are some audio files that Logic want to recreate overview or take literally forever to open..every freakin' time i open the project. I have one large live concert file (a couple hours) that takes almost an hour to open. what is going on? and why doesn't anyone at Apple reply? help!
No fix yet? This is a very serious (and obvious) bug. How can they let it go on so long unaddressed? They should rename the program Logic Studio Amateur, as it would be very difficult to use it in a professional environment with clients waiting ages for logic to recreate overviews again. Disgraceful.
Ran into this while recording vocals over the weekend. Fortunately, I didn't record a lot of takes. I thought I had done something wrong. It took several saves to get it to stop.
It's really too bad as I just moved several songs from PT8. They might have to go back...
