How Do I Run Half-Life & Associated Mods?

Greetings all!

I am currently running 64-Bit Windows 7 Professional with DirectX 11 to run the latest version of Steam. I've unlocked the Half-Life Platinum Pack which includes Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Half Life: Blue Shift, and so on... Unfortunately, I am having issues running anything associated with this package of games. Furthermore, I have had success running other games, such as Unreal Tournament, flawlessly.

After launching, the main image for the game is displayed however none of the menu options are visible (however I can mouse over and select them) and the bottom portion of the screen is usually stuck as the task bar. I've been doing some research trying to solve the issue and have seen several suggestions of running an earlier version of DirectX and have tried using the -dxlevel 60, -dxlevel 70, -dxlevel 80, and -dxlevel 81 options with no luck.

Does anyone have any tips or recomendations as to how I can run this game package successfully?

For further information, I have a Late 2008 MacBook with the Intel GMA X3100 graphics card and 4 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

Thanks for the time and enjoy the afternoon!

Take Care,
John

Normal MacBooks do not have dedicated RAM for the video chip. Not to mention the generally inferior performance of intel video chips. You need a MacBook Pro to have the dedicated hardware to run any decent 3D games (ATI or nVidia). Especially newer 1st person shooters. Half-Life (the original) should work if you have enough system ram (at least 512 MB) but it's not likely to work well. Any of the newer games that use the Source Game Engine will absolutely not work on a standard MacBook.
