Keyboard buttons are mapped wrong

The key next to left shift is switched with the button above tab. How do you fix this?

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm not looking for chaning a shortcut. The problem is that the key that writes "<" is switched with the key that writes "§". Usually OS X asks me what kind of keyboard I have and sets it thereafter, but lately it has stopped doing that and it's been this way.

Edit:
o god, apparently writing certain letters messes up the message.

I am posting this here because the subject describes the problem I encountered as well. Though, it may be different because the solution provided did not help me.

Recently I lost the function of F6-F12 keys on my aluminum keyboard.

After trying the above solution and not finding the mentioned plist file, I played around with my Keyboard preference pane and fixed it for myself. At least for now.

In the Keyboard pref pane > keyboard tab, I checked the box "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys". I switched to another pref pane and then back. I then unchecked the same box. Now all the keys work properly.

What caught my eye in the first place was that the keys would work how "I desired them to" when pressing the "fn" modifier. I then realized that the computer was acting as if that "Use all F1, …" option was selected.

I'm still not altogether clear about what you are saying here, rawgrarr, but if you are looking for the option to set a particular international keyboard mapping go to System Preferences/language and Text/Input Sources and select it there. You can also select an option there to show the Input menu (which allows you to choose between different international keyboards) in the menu bar.

Cheers
