GTR3 / Plugins in General

I'm farily new to the whole Plugin concept - so can someone point me in the right direction to learn.
I'm using Garageband 09, presonus as my interface, and I just purchased the GTR3 amp modeling software. I guess I was under the misconception that when I loaded the software it would just "magically" appear as a drop down in Garageband. So the question is, do Plugins work with Garageband...and how do I do it.

Thanks for any input.

Hi Phowe43. Yes you can use GTR3 in Garage Band. It is 3rd party AU (Audio Unit) software instrument that can be 'plugged in' to host recording programs such as GB.

There should be instructions for you to follow for its installation on your mac. Once installed, open GB and create a new project, dosn't really matter what type. Maybe choose the Voice option. Next step is to create a new track in GB, and choose Real Instrument. High light this track by clickig on its header on the left hand side. Next, open the info view on the right hand side of GB's user interface if not already open by clicking on the middle button with the i on it at the bottom right. Next click the Edit tab next to the Browse tab at the top of the info view. Some horizontal slots will appear where 'Effects' are loaded. These effects relate to the track you have opened, and each track has the same option. Some of the slots will be empty. Hover your mouse over an empty slot and you will see a message that you can click to add an effect. Click it. Another menu will appear. There are 2 lists in this menu, one is for GarageBands Native effects, and if you scroll down you will find a list called Audio Unit Effects. In this second list you will find your 3rd party software AU's such as GTR3. Simply click your choice to load into the effect slot. Once loaded, click on the word 'Manual' for a list of GTR3's presets, or click on the small red and orange icon to the left of the effect slot and GTR3's User Interface will appear and you can then tweak to your hearts content.

Hope That Helps.

Cheers. G.
